Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has branded former team-mate Danny Welbeck's move to Arsenal as “the best move for him”, whilst revealing it will be “strange” playing on opposing teams when the Red Devils travel to face Arsenal, on Saturday.
The 23-year-old Gunners attacker exited Old Trafford in the summer in a £16m Emirates Stadium switch, scoring five goals in total for Arsene Wenger's side, including a hat-trick against Galatasaray in the Champions League, and will now come up against his former side when the Gunners play hosts to Louis Van Gaal's crew.
"For Danny, and his own career, it was probably the best move for him," Rooney told MUTV.
"He's done great and scored a few goals. Danny gives you what he always gives you - a good shift.
"Of course [it will be strange playing against Welbeck], Danny has been here all of his life. He is a Manchester lad so it is weird seeing him there.
"At times, as I said to him, he works a bit too hard but he's scoring goals and he's doing well."
The Manchester United and Three Lions captain, who will come face to face with many England team-mates, admits Arsenal will prove a tough encounter for the 20-time English Premier League champions, calling for his team to be at their very best in order to seal all three points.
"Arsenal have got a good squad, an exciting squad with a lot of young players and a lot of English players which is great for England," the 29-year-old former Everton star added.
"We know they play with a lot of energy and we'll have to be at our best to beat them. It's always a tight game and whoever gets the first goal normally wins or gets a result."
