While Diego Costa left La Liga to join the English Premier League during the current transfer window, Manchester United’s Chicharito could be going in the opposite direction.

With Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck, vying for a spot in Manchester United’s First XI has not been easy for Javier Hernandez. After making only 35 appearances in all competitions and starting only six EPL matches last season, Chicharito is poised to finally put an end to his career at Old Trafford this summer.

Atletico Madrid seems to be a possible destination for the 26-year-old. The Spanish capital-based club lost talisman Diego Costa and ex-Valencia captain David Villa. In an attempt to fill the void caused by these two major departures, manager Diego Simeone has admitted that Javier Hernandez looks to be a good option.

The 2013/14 La Liga winning coach told reporters on Wednesday:

“We speak to the sporting directors, we gave them the ideas on the type of players we want and then they get the players. With Javier Hernandez and plenty of other great players, anything is possible.

“We can't close the door to anyone until the transfer window closes. He [Chicharito] is a vertical player, great in one-on-one situations.

Simeone concluded:

“He's a great option for any team.”

At 26, Javier Hernandez would have loved to have many more caps at club level. Since his switch from Guadalajara to Manchester United in 2010, the Mexican forward has made a bit more than 150 appearances only – 101 of which occurred over the course of four English Premier League seasons.
