Excitement, goals and questionable defending was the main storyline on Saturday at the Emirates Stadium when Arsenal routed Newcastle 7-3. Taking a look at that scoreline, Southampton boss Nigel Adkins will be praying for a better performance than when his team took the field at the Emirates earlier in the season.
The first fixture between these two sides in September displayed an Arsenal side that was prepared to silence most, if not all their critics. Coming off two scoreless draws against Sunderland at home and Stoke away, the Gunners manage a big win at Anfield by defeating Liverpool 0-2.
Southampton came to town knowing they wouldn't have it easy, and they certainly left knowing that for sure. A 6-1 thumping of the Saints highlighted the difficulties Southampton would face in the Premier League. Many were even starting to question if Adkins would manage to stick around for the whole season.
Since their last encounter, the Gunners have won seven, drawn four and lost four in the Premier League, leaving them in fifth place with 33 points. During that stretch, Arsene Wenger's side lost to Chelsea at home, Manchester United away, Norwich away and Swansea at home.
It goes without saying that the defeat at home against Swansea may well have been the one that many believed would dictate the end of Arsene Wenger's spell at the London side.
We now fast forward a few months and Arsenal has put together a four game win streak while Southampton finds themselves in a tight relegation battle.
The Saints have only four victories along with five draws and 10 defeats this season and if they don't turn things around quickly, they could be headed back to the lower divisions of English Football.
What looked to be a big win away to Stoke in their last time out ended in a 3-3 draw which despite being a point, may well have been three points considering Adkins' side was leading 3-1 by half time, only to see Matthew Upson and Cameron Jerome spoil the party.

The last time Arsenal traveled to St. Mary's Stadium, Freddie Ljungberg got the lone goal for the Gunners while Peter Crouch tied things up for the Saints. It's safe to say that this time around, neither will be featuring in the match, but all signs point to a highly entertaining match.
Arsenal will be looking to continue their good form when it comes to scoring goals, but they will also be hoping they can tighten things up on the defensive side of the ball.
The hosts will take a victory any way they can get it, but a draw probably wouldn't be all that bad in Nigel Adkins' eyes, considering how well Arsenal has played as of late.
One thing to watch out for in this match is complacency. Arsenal has a habit of letting everyone down when they are on a high, so setting the tone from the get go will be very important for the Gunners.
If they come out and start slow and allow Southampton to get a few shots on goal, the Saints will begin to gain some confidence knowing that if they just keep playing a physical game, Arsenal will struggle to get into their rhythm.
Considering their last meetings, it's hard to not see Arsenal coming out of St. Mary's Stadium with a victory, but as we have all seen, the English Premier League is one of, if not the most exciting league in the world for a reason.
Expect Theo Walcott to be full of confidence after his incredible performance against Newcastle on Saturday.
Can the Gunners keep things rolling with another victory against Southampton?
