Toluca vs Atlante Match Preview
The defending champions will have one last crack to try and get into the postseason as they face Atlante at home on Sunday.
Toluca were group leaders for most of the season, but a string of bad results towards the end of the campaign dropped them out of the playoff picture.
At the moment, they sit tenth with 21 points, needing a win and a bit of help to get into the "Elite eight". Atlante on the other hand, need a win to stay head above water in the relegation discussion and pad their stats on what has been a poor campaign.
Their 15 points have them 16th in the league with just one game to go.
Toluca vs Atlante Match Report
A poor showing by the defending champions at home against one of the tournament's worst teams means that Toluca will not be able to defend their title in the Apertura 2010.
Jeronimo Amione scored in the 46th minute off a Fernando Navarro pass to open scoring and make it 0-1 for the visitors. Toluca went forth in search of the transitory draw, which finally came twenty-two minutes later when Antonio Rios scored off Carlos Esquivel's service.
A second Osvaldo Gonzalez yellow card within ten minutes of play meant the defender was sent off, crippling Toluca's chances of going forward on the scoreboard.
Toluca ended the campaign with 22 points.
