Toluca vs Puebla Match Preview
Puebla will try to beat Toluca for the first time since 2003, and also revive their fledgling playoff hopes. Despite sitting thirteenth in the table with 15 points, fifth place Pumas is only three points ahead of the Camoteros.
Toluca will begin its farewell tour of outgoing manager Jose Manuel de la Torre, who was confirmed as Mexico's new manager earlier this week. The Diablos are seventh and would like to bid adieu to the man they call "Chepo" with another championship, which would be his third with the team.
They will need to score goals in order to have any hopes of doing so, as they have gone the last three matches without putting one in the back of the opposition's net.
Toluca vs Puebla Match Report
Jose Manuel de la Torre celebrated his appointment as Mexican national team manager this Sunday with a win at home, as stars Antonio Naelson and Hector Mancilla each bagged goals en route to their 2-1 victory.
Gabriel Pereyra opened the match's scoring tally with an 18th minute strike that gave Puebla a preliminary advantage.
Young Erbin Trejo, in only his third match as a professional, served up the game winner with a crisp pass that found Mancilla in the box; the Chilean international promptly slotted the ball past the diving Alexandro Alvarez.
Toluca is now fifth with the win, while Puebla's hopes are nearly dashed at thirteenth.
