The English Premier League hits its 17th round of fixtures after an exciting weekend marked with Manchester United’s dramatic derby win over Manchester City, Liverpool’s narrow victory over West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur’s crucial loss away to Everton and Fernando Torres’ fine form in Chelsea’s 3-1 over Sunderland.
The table’s top three zone remained unchanged but the Red Devils now boast an important six-point lead over the Citizens. Both clubs will have tricky fixtures on Saturday while third-placed Chelsea are far away in Japan for the FIFA Club World Cup. At Anfield, Liverpool will try to amplify Aston Villa’s sorrows.
West Bromwich Albion and Spurs are hoping to get back on track and resist David Moyes’ rampant Everton. These two clubs will play at home in Sunday’s only two games. Arsenal crashed out of the English Capital One Cup in midweek. While pressure is mounting on Arsene Wenger in the camp, nineteenth-placed Reading could rub salt on the Gunners wound with an upset on Monday night.
