Liverpool Midfielder Charlie Adam Could be Wildcard for Scotland as they Seek EURO 2012 Qualification

Liverpool FC have a long history of players who have made significant contributions to the Scotland national team. The list of Anfield legends that have starred for the Tartan Army include Graeme Souness, Kenny Dalglish and Alan Hansen.
If Scotland are to qualify for EURO 2012 they will need a new hero, and Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam could be the wildcard for Scotland as they look to upset the odds and reach the Poland/Ukraine tournament.

Scotland are currently third placed in EURO 2012 Qualifying Group I behind Spain and the Czech Republic. The Scots are 10 points behind Spain who have already sealed automatic qualification, and are two points behind the second placed Czech Republic.

Scotland could move into a playoff place with win at Lithuania on Saturday, as long as the Czechs lose to Spain the day before.

Wile that scenario is not that unlikely, to seal a playoff spot Scotland must defy the odds during the final qualifying round on October 11. On the final match day the Czech Republic travel to face Lithuania, while Scotland will face World Champions Spain in Alicante.

Liverpool players under pressure to perform after Stoke and Spurs blunders

Liverpool’s 4-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur was the most shocking score line at the weekend. A repeat of that fiasco against Brighton will mean an early end to their Carling Cup aspirations.
Last weekend, the Merseyside Reds were expected to achieve a much better result after losing 1-0 to Stoke City on match-day 4 of the English Premier League. But the way they fell to London rivals Spurs was too alarming to be true.

An early Luka Modric goal set the tone for the hosts. Jermaine Defoe eventually doubled Tottenham’s lead in the second period before Adebayor scored a brace. Charlie Adam and Martin Skrtel’s dismissals had visibly spoiled the game for Liverpool.

Kenny Dalglish had preached about sticking together ahead of the game but what he witnessed at White Hart Lane was nothing like what he wanted. In a post-match interview, the Liverpool coach singled out his flops as the reason behind the horrifying defeat.

Charlie Adam keeps thanking goodness for his move from Blackpool to one of world football’s most successful teams, Liverpool FC.
Charlie Adam couldn’t use a better word to describe the Merseyside Reds. In an interview with the English press on Thursday, the £7M signing was quoted as saying:

“No disrespect to Blackpool, but the size of this club is ginormous. It's one of THE top ones in the world, one of the elite. There aren't many who would get nearly 40,000 fans watching a training session, 80,000 watching a friendly.

“The reception in Asia, the whole thing, was incredible and shows the size of this place. But that's the expectation of being here.

Liverpool’s defense has been terrible this summer, and though it doesn’t mean much since the games are not competitive, Daniel Agger insists that the Merseyside Reds need to take things seriously now.
Liverpool’s supporters have had their hopes boosted by the arrival of more signings this summer. Midfielders Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing, Jordan Henderson have been welcomed at Anfield to boost Liverpool’s attacking options from the wings and center of the field.

Indeed, the revolution under Kenny Dalglish is expected to get hotter next season. However, Liverpool’s Daniel Agger fears that the club will suffer from a new problem: its defense. In 5 club friendly matches, the Merseyside Reds have let in as many as 15 goals.

In their latest results, they lost 3-0 to Hull City and allowed 3 more goals against Valerenga in a 3-3 draw in Norway. Agger revealed his fury while speaking to reporters as ESPN could quote:

Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Three Players Wenger Better Sign To Protect Gunners' Status

Arsene Wenger needs to spend heavily this summer. Especially with Tottenham, Man City, Man United, Liverpool and Chelsea all ready to splash the cash ahead of next season.

Same old tale. Arsenal's season went from hero to zero in a split second and who would have imagined Arsene Wenger having to wonder what went wrong when his team were looking solid for silverware on all fronts. An epic tale of tragic and disaster has been repeated again as far as the Gunners are concerned.

And of all person, Wenger's distraught looks on the sidelines never made any positive impact in motivating the demotivated players. But of course, he was indeed brimming with his evergreen sense of optimism that has never failed to depart from his inner soul ever since he arrived 15 years ago. What a long period of time? Doesn't seem that long when compared to their inability to win silverware for the past seven years.

Scotland vs Brazil Report

A sublime performance by young striker Neymar led Brazil to a 2-0 win over Scotland at the Emirates Stadium in London.
Young Santos striker Neymar showed neat footwork to open the scoring just before half-time, and added a second from the penalty spot after he was brought down by Charlie Adam.

Scotland had an early chance to make an impression when captain Kenny Miller was fouled on the edge of the area by Lucio. Blackpool playmaker Adam stepped up to free kick but fired his effort into the defensive wall.

Brazil settled into the game and began to dominate possession, their first clear cut chance came when an Elano cross was headed over the bar by Ramires.

Elano was beginning to pull the string and he released Jadson with a clever through ball, only for Allan McGregor to save and keep the scores level. Galatasaray midfielder Elano then played over a corner that was headed powerfully off the bar by Leandro Damiao.

Football’s last day in the January transfer window was crazy. The funniest news, perhaps, is that Tottenham Hotspur failed to sign Blackpool’s Charlie Adam on time. Well, this is no joke!
Initially, the Blackpool captain was hot on Liverpool’s radar. Coach Kenny Dalglish was reportedly so anxious about signing the talented player. However, the Merseyside Reds’ efforts to sign Charlie Adam got blown away by Blackpool.

In their first bid, Liverpool offered £4.5M to the Seasiders – a transfer fee which Blackpool coach Ian Holloway described as “disgraceful”. In their last try, Liverpool added £2M to their first offer but it got rejected as well. The Seasiders were not willing to let Charlie Adam leave for less than £10M.

So what have Liverpool done on the transfer market since the start of January? The Reds are struggling on the pitch like on the business front but Kenny Dalglish isn’t blaming the club’s efforts to sign players.
Liverpool are desperately in need of reinforcement and they’ve singled out Ajax’s Luis Suarez and Blackpool’s Charlie Adam as their transfer targets. However, deals to sign these two players haven’t been going ideally.

On Wednesday, Ajax coach Frank de Boer set an ultimatum to the Merseyside Reds who are yet to match Luis Suarez’s €35M price tag. Meanwhile, there are also fears that Charlie Adam will not be able to land at Anfield – something which has raised speculations about Liverpool going in for Spurs’ Niko Kranjcar as a replacement for the Blackpool play maker.
