Football’s last day in the January transfer window was crazy. The funniest news, perhaps, is that Tottenham Hotspur failed to sign Blackpool’s Charlie Adam on time. Well, this is no joke!
Initially, the Blackpool captain was hot on Liverpool’s radar. Coach Kenny Dalglish was reportedly so anxious about signing the talented player. However, the Merseyside Reds’ efforts to sign Charlie Adam got blown away by Blackpool.

In their first bid, Liverpool offered £4.5M to the Seasiders – a transfer fee which Blackpool coach Ian Holloway described as “disgraceful”. In their last try, Liverpool added £2M to their first offer but it got rejected as well. The Seasiders were not willing to let Charlie Adam leave for less than £10M.

Now as Liverpool’s hopes of luring the 25-year-old midfielder fell to the ground, Tottenham Hotspur popped up – answering the alert. The London club convinced Blackpool with an 11th hour bid that cost around £6.5M.

However, it wasn’t until 11:02pm that Tottenham Hotspur and Charlie Adam’s Blackpool finished paperwork issues. In a few words, the prospective transfer had failed. Spurs’ disappointed Harry Redknapp explained matters to The Sun as he said:

“It went right to the wire, but we couldn’t beat the deadline. The boy was up for coming to us, and they wanted to sell him.

“We had agreed a fee in the region of £6.5M but their chairman needed to get 2 shareholders to sign the forms, and we were a couple of minutes away from getting it done.”

So Spurs may have to wait until the summer to make the Charlie Adam transfer possible. Until then, the player claims to be alright and devoted to Blackpool despite being at the centre of an amazing transfer deadline farce.

“It’s been a crazy day,” Charlie Adam said according to Sky Sports News.

“But, I am still a Blackpool player and I’ll do my best to help the club achieve its highest possible league finish.”

Charlie Adam will have the chance to work alongside last-minute comers James Beattie from Rangers, Sergei Kornilenko from Zenit St Petersburg, Jason Puncheon from Southampton and Andy Reid from Sunderland. These 4 players represent Ian Holloway’s remarkable transfer business achievements on the last day of the January transfer window. The quartet have all been signed on loan from their respective club.
