A sublime performance by young striker Neymar led Brazil to a 2-0 win over Scotland at the Emirates Stadium in London.
Young Santos striker Neymar showed neat footwork to open the scoring just before half-time, and added a second from the penalty spot after he was brought down by Charlie Adam.
Scotland had an early chance to make an impression when captain Kenny Miller was fouled on the edge of the area by Lucio. Blackpool playmaker Adam stepped up to free kick but fired his effort into the defensive wall.
Brazil settled into the game and began to dominate possession, their first clear cut chance came when an Elano cross was headed over the bar by Ramires.
Elano was beginning to pull the string and he released Jadson with a clever through ball, only for Allan McGregor to save and keep the scores level. Galatasaray midfielder Elano then played over a corner that was headed powerfully off the bar by Leandro Damiao.
After another flowing Brazil move Lucas Leiva played over a cross that was apparently handled by Gary Caldwell , Scotland escaped though as the penalty appeals were turned down.
Scotland’s biggest threat appeared to be on set pieces, and they went close from one when Adam’s deep cross was glanced wide by Steven Whittaker.
Brazil deservedly took the lead three minutes before half-time when Andre Santos set up Neymar and the young striker showed neat footwork before finishing into the far corner for a 1-0 lead at the break.
Brazil came out firing early in the second half and showed good ball pressure as well as skill in possession. Neymar fired against the crossbar early in the half, before Ramires dispossessed Adam and tried to play in the Santos forward. Scotland goalkeeper McGregor deflected the pass before saving well from Damiao.
Barcelona full-back Dani Alves joined the attacking effort for Brazil, and his low cross was fired over by the hard working Ramires.
Scotland threatened intermittently on the counterattack and Adam fired over the bar after driving at the Brazilian defense. Adam was soon in action at the other end when he felled Neymar to award Brazil a spot kick.
Neymar calmly stroked home the penalty to give Brazil a comfortable 2-0 lead. Sao Paulo’s teenage prodigy Lucas was then introduced in the final stages and made an exciting cameo.
The young forward beat several defenders and played a one-two with Neymar before his shot was comfortably saved by McGregor. Lucas then set up Jonas with an inviting cross but the powerful forward fired over the bar and the score remained 2-0.
