On June 3 in Bruxelles, 2010 FIFA World Cup ticket holders Italy and Mexico will battle against each other. Kick off time is at 17:15 GMT.

Italy and Mexico battling it out during the 2002 FIFA World Cup.Italy and Mexico have an interesting head-to-head history. They met three times during the World Cup with the Azzurri winning the first of these three meetings by four goals to one. That was back in 1970. But in 1994 and in 2002, the two sides drew 1-1 in the space of 90 minutes.

Mexico just bounced back from the two defeats to England and the Netherlands from which they suffered recently. El Tri expectedly thrashed Gambia 5-1 to at least make it four wins out of their last six friendly matches. Those wins came against Senegal, Angola, Chile, and lately Gambia. Now Javier Aguirre’s men want to get things right against top sides. Playing good football isn’t Mexico’s problem.

Their long range shots is the delight of the crowd but their lack of accuracy or luck as one may call it comes at their own detriment. Mexico will have to face Group A favorites France on Match-day 2 at the 2010 World Cup. Therefore, playing against Italy in their last warm-up match ahead of the tournament is certainly a good choice. A positive result will give El Tri the perfect tonic to be confident of upsetting the hosts South Africa in the opening game of the 2010 FIFA World Cup competition.

As for Italy, they’ll have another friendly match against Switzerland to play on June 5. The Azzurri have secured only a single victory in between two draws since terminating their 2010 World Cup qualification with a 3-2 win against Cyprus. Italy haven’t conceded in their last three matches but they’ve also scored only once. Can they follow the example set by England and the Netherlands who claimed victory over the Mexicans lately?
