The Brazilian Football Association (CBF) announced that the South Americans have confirmed five friendly matches against Bosnia, Denmark, the United States, Mexico and Argentina.
The first match for the Selecao in 2012 will be against Bosnia in Saint Gallen, Switzerland, on February 28. Denmark will be Brazil's next opponents, with the fixture scheduled for May 26 in the German city of Hamburg.
Brazil will then travel to the United States, where they will take part in three relatively high-profile friendly matches. They will face the United States on either May 30 or 31 in Boston or Washington. The last time the teams met in 2010 Brazil cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win courtesy of goals from Neymar and Alexandre Pato.
There’s good news for Mexico and Javier Hernandez fans. The striker is finally back for his national team ahead of Friday’s international friendly against Poland.

After inspiring Mexico to glory at the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup, Javier Hernandez took some time off. He then suffered a setback following a concussion. Eventually, Javier Hernandez couldn’t feature in Manchester United’s other pre-season games.
However, the striker appeared as a substitute last Sunday as Man United enjoyed a goal feast at Old Trafford over Arsenal. Chicharito stepped onto the pitch at the 36th minute to replace goal scorer Danny Welbeck. Ahead of Friday’s Poland vs Mexico friendly, Javier Hernandez revealed his joy to play for El Tri again.
Finally, a team managed to put goals past Portugal’s defensive walls made of iron. This team was none other than Brazil, the eventual 2011 FIFA U-20 crowned champions.
Golden Ball and Golden Shoe winner Henrique didn’t steal the show as many were expecting. Instead, Oscar came to Brazil’s rescue with a hat-trick that stunned Portugal’s seemingly invincible Mika.
The Brazilian match hero put his side in front as early as inside the 5th minute but Alex and Nelson Oliveira rekindled the Portuguese’s hopes. With a quarter of an hour to go in normal time, Portugal looked to have one hand on the 2011 FIFA U-20 title.
However, Oscar’s skill and ambitious spirit proved that any defense can be troubled. A 78th minute equalizer sent the match into extra-time where Portugal couldn’t find the means to get another goal. Oscar turned up one more time with a 111th minute wonder strike—arguably the best of the tournament—as Brazil edged the 5-goal thriller.
Mexico's U-20 players want nothing else but bronze ahead of their third-place final encounter against France.

With 10 minutes of normal time remaining in the semis against Brazil, Mexico were perhaps thinking of regenerating their strength to play extra-time football. But Henrique’s late goals for Brazil forced the Mexicans to settle for Saturday’s third-place final.
Playmaker Ulises Davila couldn’t hide his frustration during an interview with FIFA.com ahead of Mexico vs France. He revealed the team’s disappointment at missing out on a date with Portugal by declaring:
“We’re devastated. Our goal was to reach the final and we didn’t make it. That’s why there wasn’t exactly a party atmosphere in the dressing room.
Brazil vs Mexico and France vs Portugal finally come up tonight the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup reaches its semi-final stage.
At this stage of the competition, losing hurts probably the most! The stage for the final showdown is so near and no team wants to miss out on the dream of being crowned 2011 FIFA U-20 champions. Brazil, Mexico, France and Portugal all have a genuine chance of making their nations proud.
The reality, however, remains this way: only 2 teams will make it to the final and only 1 of the 4 teams will win the title. Tonight, the 2011 FIFA U-20 semi-finals will get underway. The quarter-finals stage is now gone and it produced some great results.
Brazil ousted pre-tournament favorites Spain. Amat and current top scorer Vazquez became the victims of Gabriel’s splendid goalkeeping as the Brazilians won 4-2 on penalties after playing a 2-2 draw. Elsewhere, Portugal had triumphed in spot-kicks against Argentina in dramatic fashion.
Colombia, Portugal, Mexico, Argentina, Nigeria, Spain, France and Brazil will line up this weekend in the quarter-finals of the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup. Which team will win tickets to the semi-finals?
FIFA U-20 World Cup tournaments have strongly contributed in the growth of world football’s top stars. Former U-20 stars Diego Maradona (winner of the Golden Ball in Japan 1979), Javier Saviola, Lionel Messi or Sergio Aguero can confirm this fact.
The U-20 World Cup competition, which was founded in 1977, has seen countries like Argentina, Brazil, Spain and Germany among others top the best performances list. This only makes it hard for one to question the success of those countries’ senior national teams or senior footballers.
This year, it will be no different. The quarter-final stage at the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup will be contested by Portugal, Argentina, Mexico, hosts Colombia, France, Nigeria, Brazil and Spain. With all players involved sharing the unique dream of reaching higher standards individual and collectively in their career, August 13 and August 14’s fixtures promise to be very competitive.
Juergen Klinsmann leads USA to a draw in his first match as head-coach.

Europeans and some Asian countries regard football as the best sport in the world. The Americans play a different kind of football and they refer to European football as ‘soccer’. Juergen Klinsmann grew up with the term ‘fussball’ set firmly in his ears. Klinsmann played for many a famous club and is a popular man in California and in the rest of North America.
The excitement surrounding the US national team hasn’t been great in recent months. However, Klinsmann’s hiring partly woke the fans up. In his first match, the blonde German, lovingly known as ‘Klinsi’ in Germany, led his side to a very good result against the largely dominant Mexicans.
Catch up with ESPN Deportes, ESPN2 and ESPN3.com for a great coverage of Wednesday night’s USA vs Mexico international friendly match as coach Jurgen Klinsmann will be making his debut.

The encounter, which is set to kick off at 9pm EST at the Lincoln Field in Philadelphia, will be broadcasted live on ESPN2 and ESPN3. It is expected to attract millions of spectators as the rivalry between the 2 nations continues to grow despite the fact that it is a friendly match.
On June 25, the date which marks USA’s last meeting with Mexico up to now, the Americans suffered great disappointment by throwing away a 2-0 lead to lose 4-2 to El Tri. This match was played in front of over 93,000 fans at the Rose Bowl stadium in Pasadena. This time round, USA have an obligation to reassure their fans over their lost authority against the Mexicans.
The weekend ended with some Super Cup football in Portugal, England and Italy in Europe...
But in midweek, football fans across the world will have their attention taken away from club football as national teams will take on the pitch in various cities and stadiums. With the qualification fixtures for the 2014 FIFA World Cup revealed, rehearsal time has already begun. But some teams in Europe are not looking too far ahead to Brazil 2014 as the 2012 European Championship is set to come around much earlier.
There will be 3 all-European encounters among top fixtures on Wednesday, August 10. Italy vs Spain and England vs Netherlands will kick off almost simultaneously only to give neutrals a real headache over which match to follow. Portugal vs Luxembourg, meanwhile, will take place later in the night.
It seems like only yesterday that UNAM was lifting the championship trophy. Yet clubs in Mexico’s Primera Division have already played two games and already seem ready for another unpredictable, entertaining season.

By C.I. Sanchez
The holiday break was a bit short, although long enough for Mexico to claim a Gold Cup trophy—albeit with some controversy and tainted meat. Regardless, there were stellar performances by Monterrey’s Aldo de Nigris, Toluca’s Alfredo Talavera, and UNAL’s Jorge Torres.
As for transfers, it was a bit eventful. American internationals Jonathan Bornstein and Herculez Gomez have welcomed fellow international teammate Demarcus Beasley to Mexico; he signed a deal with Pueblas. Memo Ochoa left to join France’s Ajaccio. His departure unfortunately adds to the Primera Division’s shrinking presence in Mexico’s national football squad.
Chicharito won’t feature in Saturday’s highly anticipated Barcelona vs Manchester United World Football Challenge match.

The Mexican suffered a knock on his head during training earlier this week. He was eventually hospitalized and reports from Manchester United’s camp now confirm that Chicharito will be out for at least 2 weeks ahead of the new season.
Alex Ferguson gave more details to reporters in a recent interview. The Old Scot also explained the main reason behind Javier Hernandez’s inability to feature in the Red Devils’ encounter against Barcelona. Ferguson was quoted as saying by the press in the US:
“He [Chicharito] got concussion in training and we dealt with that. We took him to hospital, he had a scan. It was all clear. He is back in the hotel. He is in his room and will be out for a couple of weeks.
Sunday’s Puebla vs Pachuca match will kick start the 2011 Apertura Tournament of Mexico’s Primera Division. Kick-off time is at 12:55pm ET on ESPN Deportes.

Matches featuring Cruz Azul and Santos Laguna will be broadcasted live whereas as fans can watch out for an exciting encounter on September 24 when Cruz Azul will affront Guadalajara at 6pm ET. Confirming ESPN Deportes’ rights to cover the 2011 Apertura Tournament, the channel’s Mexican football expert Ciro Procuna reportedly declared:
“The 2011 Apertura Tournament is not to be missed. Pumas and Chivas have two solid and reliable teams; Santos, Monterrey, and Tigres will be competing with great lineups for the Northern supremacy.
“Cruz Azul and America are two big teams that have fallen behind and need to step up their game. Mexico has one of the continent’s most competitive leagues.”
Incredibly, Uruguay and Mexico both have a chance of reaching the quarter-finals of the 2011 Copa America despite being winless…

Things aren’t really clicking for the Uruguayans. Playmaker Diego Forlan is yet to find the net despite getting a few genuine chances to do so. Meanwhile, the entire team hasn’t managed to unlock the gates to victory. One of the positives in their 1-1 draw against Peru was that they came from a goal down to earn a point.
Pundits and fans eventually tipped Uruguay to go one better in the following game against Chile. When Pereira broke the deadlock with a 53rd minute strike, especially, it looked like La Celeste Olimpica had found true grace from above at last. But Sanchez and co had other ideas as the Chileans ran away with a point at the end of the match.
“Next game, we have to win it.” Those were the words of goal scorer Guerrero following Peru’s draw against La Celeste Olimpica. Will Mexico be the victims of the ambitious Peruvians?

Group C’s standings explain that Peru have the advantage over Mexico. In fact, the Blanquirroja recorded a vital 1-1 draw against Uruguay on Monday night.
Suddenly, it seems as if Peru’s chances of progressing into the next stage are wide open. However, only a good result against invitees Mexico in Mendoza will increase the size of Peru’s tag as one of the 2011 Copa America’s surprise packages.
Meanwhile, the story is different for the Mexicans. The country are trying to battle it out with an U-22 version of the senior national team. Losing is never an option in big tournaments but Mexico may not take their defeat to Chile on match-day 1 that bitterly.
Mexico lost a 1-0 lead and thus an entire game to Chile. However, coach Luis Fernando Tena is not raging at his young players.

The Mexico manager was keen to share his view of their defeat to the media. Tena analyzed the match and expressed mixed emotions during the post-match press conference:
“The team stood strong against a rival with more experience and a lot of quality. We can't be happy because we lost, but we can rest easy because our players gave their all during the whole match.
“Chile had greater possession of the ball, they were dynamic, and they won the game fairly and with justice. I think they will go far in the Copa America.
Chile and Mexico kick-off their Copa America 2011 campaigns facing each other on July 4th at 8:45PM (EST)

Chile and Mexico are arguably two of the most attack-minded Latin American football nations. They face each other in the second Copa America 2011 match of Group C. The Group is comprised of Chile and Mexico, Peru and Uruguay.
Chile will be led by the dangerous Alexi Sanchez considered one of the best South America attacking football players today, and whose services are currently being sought out by FC Barcelona. No doubt Sanchez will want to make a good impression in his South American campaign. Mexico are in confident form after winning the 2011 Gold Cup on US soil. The Mexicans completely dismantled the USA 2-4 in the Gold Cup Final and will be looking to build on that success.
Chile are fired up as their 2011 Copa America campaign will kick-off against Mexico on Monday night local time.

La Roja have one ambition, and that is to go as far as they can as shot stopper Claudio Bravo stated in Mendoza according to AFP.
“We will face each game the same way we’ve done since long ago—with our ideas, our intelligibility and our desire to play football on equal terms with anyone. We will do our best during this Copa America.
“We plan to reach the semi-finals, not as a goal but as our ideal target. Each of us has the desire to go and win the title and we came to Argentina with this mindset.
“But we have to go step by step and not to raise false expectations.”
