Chelsea will be hoping to secure qualification to the next round of the FA Cup when they face Stoke City in the fourth round at the Stamford Bridge.

Preview: Stoke looking to get the better of Chelsea again

Juan Mata’s imminent departure to fellow Premier League club Manchester United has grabbed all the media attention, but Chelsea will be hoping to keep that at the back of their mind when they face Stoke in a FA Cup encounter.

The Potters scored a 3-2 victory over the Blues last time the two sides met earlier in the season. An injury time winner from Liverpool loanee Oussama Assaidi gave Stoke all three points who will be fancying their chances when they visit the Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Having played against Mark Hughes’ men already, manager Jose Mourinho’s knows what to expect and has predicted a stiff test for his side when they go against the Potters.

“I say we lost against this team and it was not a long time ago,” he said.

“We lost to them one month ago. They are a difficult team. Very physical, very direct."

“They’re very strong in set pieces. I expect a very difficult match that’s why I’m going to play a strong team.”

Mourinho has also claimed that he would put his best side on the pitch and chances are less that many first team players will be getting a rest on Sunday.

“I’m not going to make big changes in the team because we’re going to try and go as far as possible in the competition and a very strong team.”

Stoke confirmed a place in the fourth round of the FA Cup with a win over Championship leaders Leicester City . However since then the Potters have lost both their games against Liverpool and Crystal Palace. Stoke now face a daunting task ahead as they face a Chelsea side which has once against established the Stamford Bridge as a fortress with the return of Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese tactician has only once lifted the FA Cup which was back in 2007 and the former Real Madrid coach will be hoping to win the competitions once again upon his return. The Blues have been on a formidable run having won all of their last six matches in all competitions and have conceded just twice in the process.

Their victory against Chelsea last time out was their first against the Blues since 1995 and it would be a surprise if they manage to record a win again given their horrid away record. The Potters have recorded victory in only a single away match this season which was against West Ham back in August.

Their record at Stamford Bridge after earning promotion in 2008 has not been convincing either, having lost in each of their five league meetings and one FA Cup match at the stadium.
Stoke however have positive news on the injury front, with first choice goalkeeper Asmir Begovic set to return after being out for a month with a broken finger. Striker Kenwyne Jones could also be recalled after being dropped from the squad in the match against Crystal Palace for refusing to play against Liverpool.

John Guidetti on loan from Manchester City has been declared a doubt for the match after he reported to training on Friday feeling unwell whereas Robert Huth [knee], Matthew Etherington [calf] and Andy Wilkinson [foot] are definitely out of the match.

Chelsea meanwhile will be without Fernando Torres who suffered a knee injury during the 3-1 victory over Manchester United. Frank Lampard who was an unused substitute in the match against the Red Devils could also feature in the FA Cup tie, but there is no return date for young Marco van Ginkel who is expected to be out for a lengthy period due to a knee injury.
