Swansea’s football inspired many a fan last season. However, this season, the story has been markedly different.

Preview: Can Tottenham edge closer to the top four?

Michael Laudrup’s side earned plenty of plaudits for the way they set out last season. However, Laudrup and his side have come under criticism for not changing the way things are done. For all the nice passes on the pitch, the results have been horrible. Swansea sits in fourteenth spot in the Premier League having lost four of their previous five Premier League matches.

Jose Canas and Garry Monk are out for Swansea. Two incredibly important players who Laudrup is desperately in need of are out as well in Michu and Pablo Hernandez. Dwight Tiendalli, Nathan Bakar and Michel Vorm could return to the squad for this one but the chances are low. Jonathan De Guzman and Roland Lamah are doubtful. Swansea’s Wayne Routledge spoke about their current plights recently as Sky Sports noted:

"It's an eye-opener to show what happen if you don't pick up points in the Premier League. It can suck you in. It's down to us to respond and pick up as many points as we can between now and the end of the season.

It's the closest we've been to the bottom, but I don't think that's a reflection of our performances. They've been okay, we just haven't been able to pick up points at the right times.

Hopefully we can keep performing and the results will turn for us. Don't be mistaken, we're in two cups, but the main goal for the season is to remain in the Premier League."

Their opponents, Tottenham, despite their wayward performances until Tim Sherwood took over, still have a decent chance of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League. A win will see them draw level with Liverpool on points, and in the event that Everton does not win, go up to fifth in the table, level on points with the fourth placed side.

Sherwood will be without Jan Vertonghen, Paulinho and Younes Kaboul. Sandro has returned to training and might be included in the match-day squad. In their previous 2-0 win over Crystal Palace, Kyle Walker had to go off but will perhaps be available tomorrow. Erik Lamela is rated doubtful for this one.

Will Tottenham use this tiny window of opportunity that popped open due to Aston Villa’s draw against Liverpool? Or will Swansea’s football see them take a surprise victory against Tim Sherwood’s enthusiastic side?
