Liverpool vs Chelsea: How Andy Carroll’s disallowed “goal” could haunt the Blues

Bitter rivals Liverpool and Chelsea will lock horns for the second time in three days. It is revenge time for the Merseyside Reds who narrowly lost to the Blues in the 2012 FA Cup final last Saturday.

Andy Carroll's 84th minute header. Was it a goal or not?Andy Carroll’s 84th minute header, which never stood as a goal according to the referee, has divided concerned football fans. While some believe the match officials’ decision was correct, others insist that the ball crossed the line. Even camera technology cannot settle this case with a final general opinion.

While debates over Carroll’s denied equalizer at Wembley continue to hit football forums, the truth is that Liverpool enter Monday’s battle as beaten FA Cup finalists. The Merseyside Reds have absolutely nothing to play for in the English Premier League but pride.

They may want to remain in the top half of the table and prove to their fans that the club’s spirit is not dead regardless of the many disappointments they have encountered this season.

Two London clubs alongside an underdog will be looking to grab third place and the final automatic Champions League spot. Arsenal sits third with 66 points with Spurs and Newcastle just a point behind.
Arsenal seemingly had it all wrapped up- they had been winning game after game leaving Tottenham, Chelsea and Newcastle in their wake. They had even beaten the current top side in the league Manchester City. Unfortunately, points have been hard to come by recently and Arsenal now finds themselves in a tough battle to keep hold of the spot.

Their next opponent is Norwich. Norwich is led by former Champions League winner (in 1997 with Borussia Dortmund) Paul Lambert. Under Lambert, they went up to as high as eighth in the league and were never in danger of being relegated. They currently sit fourteenth in the table.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Blackburn Rovers: A must win for either side

Tottenham Hotspur face a relegation threatened Blackburn side on Sunday. The game is a do-or-die situation for either side.
Harry Redknapp must be a bit red-faced now. With 6 games remaining, he said Spurs had to win 5 of those games. Spurs went on to lose to Norwich City. Redknapp said they must win all their remaining games. Enter QPR and a another loss and to 10 men to boot. This equals ONE win in 9 games scoring 8 goals. Spurs currently sit in 5th place.

Spurs have faded and even though pundits were raging about their attacking prowess, it wasn’t entirely a surprise to watch this happen. A lot of the squad are spent. Bale, Modric, Assou-Ekotto and Walker have appeared 32 times. They were still in the FA cup until their semi final loss to Chelsea 2 weeks ago.

Chelsea vs Barcelona and Mourinho’s prediction: Are Barca sure Champions League finalists?

The Chelsea vs Barcelona match is factually a huge matchup, and in this article, we look at Jose Mourinho’s controversial statement, while we analyse various aspects of the game.

Barcelona are super-favourties over Chelsea in the Champions League semifinals according to Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho. It was just after Real Madrid’s qualification into the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League that Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho began what appeared to be mind games with rival Pep Guardiola, as he downgraded Chelsea’s status by overly elevating the Catalans prior to their meeting at the Stamford Bridge.

“It could be Bayern or Barcelona,” the BBC quoted him saying. “I just don't think it will be Real Madrid v Chelsea and we know why.”

"Barcelona aren't the favourites, they are super-favourites."

Such a statement – especially from a football personality as experienced as Jose Mourinho – cannot be instantly substantiated. One can even question the level of sincerity behind this statement.

Exaggeration of opinion? Perhaps, but it is easier to believe that the Real Madrid manager was simply trying to make one or several points implicitly.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea: Why this FA Cup semi-final match is 50/50

Saturday April 14 2012,
Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea meet again this year. This time, only one will walk away the victor.
That is what the stakes are on Sunday at Wembley Stadium when Spurs and Chelsea face each other in the second FA Cup semi-final deciding which of them face Liverpool, who themselves are gunning for a second piece of silverware to patch up the wounds from a terrible 2012 campaign.

Chelsea and Spurs’ fates seem inextricably linked this entire season. They have recorded 2 draws in their 2 meetings this season. In the Premier League, they are separated by 2 points only.

Chelsea have dropped from 5th place to 6th, courtesy of emerging thorn in the side Newcastle United. Alan Pardew’s men are mounting a strong push for a place in Europe and with Arsenal seemingly locking down that 3rd spot, both of these teams will have to play every remaining game as if it were a cup final.

Monday mayhem as Chelsea get hot on Spurs’ heels for fourth place

Monday will be crunch time again right after Sunday’s big matches in the English Premier League.

Chelsea are chasing the fourth place. They will play Fulham on Monday. The top 5 all play in 2 consecutive days making it smorgasbord viewing for EPL fans. Monday’s fixtures will be Chelsea against Fulham while Tottenham take on Norwich City. Previous results for these fixtures yielded a tie and a Spurs win at Carrow Road.

Over the weekend, Spurs were held to a goalless draw by Sunderland while Chelsea rode their luck as they did against Benfica to beat Wigan 2-1. Presumably fixture congestions are why they are playing twice within 3 days. If this was not enough, the Blues and Spurs meet on the 15th in an FA Cup semi-final derby.

Chelsea surely are wondering if they should have perhaps delved into the transfer window for some depth. They face Barcelona next week at home, Arsenal away and back to the Nou Camp the following week.

Sunday April 8 2012,
Tags: Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur
There is a lot at stake in the Arsenal vs Manchester City fixture. Fourth-placed aspirants Spurs and EPL title favourites Manchester United are among the parties involved.
April was supposed to be the month in which the EPL Champions would be decided courtesy of the Manchester derby on the 30th. However, the title could arguably be decided as early as tomorrow if Arsenal manage to get over the hump they suffered at QPR last week and do Manchester United a favor by widening the gap between them and Manchester City to 8 points.

Arsenal are level on points with Tottenham but edging them out at 3rd by simply by 1 on goal differential. Man City with a win at the Emirates can decrease the gap to 2 points between themselves and Man Utd. If they were to do that, then the derby could again perhaps become the deciding factor.

Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur: Champions League qualification tickets in Spurs’ hands

The day: Sat Mar 24. The venue: Stamford Bridge. The visitors: Tottenham Hotspurs: The stakes. 4th place.
All right. A win for the Blues will not catapult them to 4th but will bring them within striking distance of Spurs threatening that precious berth and a lucrative Champions League eligibility.

Chelsea are riding a very high crest since Andres Villas Boas's departure. Under Roberto Di Matteo, they have won 4 of their last 5 games including overturning a 3-1 deficit to Napoli. Suddenly, Chelsea have a lot to play for including the FA Cup and qualification for next season’s CL.

Chelsea lost their midweek meeting to Man City but only just as Spurs drew with Stoke. Tottenham have yet to win a premier league game in 2012 so they have chosen the wrong time to go through a blip. A repeat of such an outcome would only be good news to title aspirants, Manchester United. Following their shocking defeat to Swansea City earlier in the month, let’s just say that Manchester City have no room for more mistakes. That would put them 4 points behind the Red Devils.

Wednesday night’s battle in Manchester will be like a final for both teams but Chelsea perhaps have the advantage. The Blues don’t only have more experience than City. They are also in great revival form following the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas a few weeks ago.

Thursday March 8 2012,
Tags: Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham is no longer part of the Premier League title race. They are slowly getting pulled down towards fourth place.
Four points is all that separates Spurs from their bitter North London rivals Arsenal. Spurs was the talk of the Premiere League for much of the season but is starting to fall away at the most vital point of the season- where every win almost counts double. Two drubbings in the hands of Arsenal and Manchester United respectively have left Harry Redcap’s crew writhing in agony.

While losing to United is no anomaly for Spurs, losing in the fashion they did especially at home was rather shameful. The bruises Spurs suffered from the London derby will not be forgotten soon, especially considering they squandered a 0-2 lead. As we all know by now, Champions do not squander 0-2 leads.
