Manchester United will welcome Swansea City to the Old Trafford a side which recently knocked the defending English champions out of the FA Cup.

Preview: United looking for first win of the year

The Red Devils have uncharacteristically lost all the matches they have played so far in 2014 and are currently on their worst run of form since 2001. A defeat at the hands of Tottenham in the Premier League was followed by losses at the hands of Swansea and Sunderland resulting in Moyes’ side being eliminated from both domestic cup competitions.

As if on-field problems are not grave enough Man United manager David Moyes has been charged for his criticism of the referee in the aftermath of the Sunderland match. The Scot criticised the referee for both the goals United conceded and as a result might face serious consequences.

Much for their on and off the field problems, United will be determined to respond and gain a swift revenge over a side which knocked them out of the FA Cup. Ryan Giggs is particular is adamant that his team’s current form will spur them to produce a string of good performances and has urged his teammates to be strong enough to pull themselves out of the mess they are presently in.

"It is a test of character but I am fully confident we will come through it and we will be okay," Giggs said.

"I have said many times over the years, the defeats and lossesgenerate a bigger feeling than winning things. It sticks with you a lot longer."

"You have to react and you have to try and do something about it. It hurts.”

Even though the Red Devils have been on a horrendous form as of late, Swansea’s Danish manager Michael Laudrup has claimed that he expects a stiff test when his side makes a trip to Manchester, but has insisted that he has enough firepower in his squad to pull off another upset.

"We've shown it is possible [to win] if you believe in it," the Dane told reporters.

"In recent games we have played with a lot of confidence and we just needed a win. I think it will be more difficult than last week. I expect them to come at us and they have to win this game. We have to be ready for that because we know it will be tough."

United’s appalling home form this season should makes the Swans confident of their chances on Saturday. The Red Devils have won just four of the 10 matches they have played at Old Trafford in the league so far and will be hoping to avoid a third consecutive defeat at their own turf.

A loss for both the sides will be detrimental as it can potentially push Swansea closer to the relegation zone whereas a loss for Man United can allow Newcastle to overtake the Red Devils.
United’s injury crisis does not seem to improve any soon with both Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie ruled out of the home fixture against Swansea, the prolific duo is also doubtful for the trip to Stamford Bridge next week. Apart from the two strikers, United will also be without Nani (hamstring) and Marouane Fellaini (wrist), whereas Jonny Evans (knock) and Phil Jones (knee) are in contention to make it to the squad for Saturday’s match.

Swansea will also be without key men with winger Pablo Hernandez (hamstring), forward Michu (ankle), goalkeeper Michel Vorm (knee) and midfielder Roland Lamah all ruled out of the tie.

Last time the two sides met, Wilfred Bony scored a later winner for the Swans after defender Fabio Da Silva was red carded for a rash challenge on Jose Canas.
