Preview: Tough clash at a tough time for Arsenal
The Gunners are eager to put on a great show at the Emirates Stadium this evening, following the 2-0 loss to Chelsea in the Capital One Cup in midweek. That was a rather disappointing result looking at the team’s current hot form. At the end of the day, Jose Mourinho’s tactical tricks and the players’ great execution on the field proved too strong for Arsene Wenger’s side to overcome.
Arsenal’s fixture list is very tough, with a crucial UEFA Champions League battle away to Borussia Dortmund coming up next week. As of now though, the focus is on keeping maximum points at home against Liverpool.
All eyes are on the ‘SAS’ (Suarez and Sturridge) partnership. The two strikers have been tormenting goalkeepers in the EPL this season and have been tipped to humble the league leaders this Saturday. But the Gunners have Mesut Özil, Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud to count on.
It could be an awesome game for neutrals, marked with great attacking play and tight defending. There have been three draws and three yellow cards in the last six meetings between the Merseyside Reds and Arsenal.
The last time Liverpool defeated their rivals was in August 2011 in a game staged at the Emirates. Brendan Rodgers will be hoping for a repeat of that to overtake the Gunners at the summit of the Premier League table.
