Though it should never have come to this, Tottenham Hotspur fans would be hoping to see Everton do them a big favour by beating Arsenal in tonight’s Barclays Premier League encounter.
Today, Emirates Stadium will see Arsenal play host to high flying Everton in a Barclays Premier League encounter where victory for either side will go a long way in helping them towards sealing a top four finish.

Despite their notoriously tight budget, Everton have managed to keep alive their dream of returning to Champions League football while Arsenal, after some truly inconsistent performances during the first half of the campaign, have managed to spark life into their Champions League campaign.

The Gunners have never missed out on a top four place in the last 16 years and if this season they fail to, it would indeed be a bitter pill to swallow especially if rivals Tottenham qualify for the competition.

After an impressive run of form of late, Arsenal have climbed up to third plays in the Barclays Premier League standings with 59 points, one ahead of Chelsea and Spurs who are placed fourth and fifth respectively. However, now would not be the time to relax for Arsene Wenger’s side who know that they cannot change their future if they are unable to seal a place in Europe’s top tier club competition.

Everton on the other hand, trail Chelsea by three points and a win over them will also give them new hopes of playing in Champions League next season and the financial rewards the qualification will bring.
Apart from Everton and Arsenal fans, fans of Tottenham Hotspur would also be keeping a beady eye on proceedings at the Emirates Stadium tonight.

Should Everton manage to beat the Gunners, it would then give Spurs another chance to return to a position they were sitting comfortably in for most part of the campaign.

Poor and inconsistent displays coupled with injuries to Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon have derailed the Londoners’ quest for a return to Champions League football and Andre Villas-Boas would be cheering for Toffees to beat his club’s perennial rivals. Indeed, failure to once again seal a place in the Champions League will put question marks over Spurs’ credentials as a club that can fight for top honours each season.

Moreover, failure to qualify for UCL could also see the club lose out on the services of star players such as Gareth Bale who will have enough suitors offering him Champions League football on a regular basis come the summer transfer window.

With the club set to play Manchester City in their next Premier League encounter, Tottenham fans would be hoping to see Everton register at least a draw at the Emirates Stadium which would then give Spurs a chance to reclaim their lost spot.

Although it should never have come to this, Spurs have only themselves to blame for a poor run of results that could even result in the club not featuring in Europe altogether next season, such is the state of the top half of the table right now.
