Manchester United vs Liverpool opens an exciting weekend of action in the EPL

Where else to kick off this weekend’s English Premier League drama but at Old Trafford where Manchester United and Liverpool are set to fire bombs?

Wayne Rooney leads Manchester United's chase for the EPL title.Manchester United vs Liverpool

The Red Devils earned a point in controversial fashion last Sunday. Two crucial penalty decisions went in their favor as Chelsea dropped a 3-0 lead and thus two precious points at the Bridge.

Manchester United are now two points behind league leaders Manchester City. Ferguson’s men could temporarily claim the top spot but will Liverpool allow them to do so?

The Merseyside Reds have a pretty good record against Manchester United so they can confidently fancy their chances of winning. Liverpool should find pride, favor and hope in the following: their FA Cup triumph over Man United in January, Man City’s 6-1 humiliation of the Red Devils at Old Trafford and Blackburn Rovers’ 3-2 giant-killing at the same venue back in December.

Everton vs Manchester City Preview

The last clash between Manchester City and Everton in the English Premier League ended in a 2-0 victory in favour of the Citizens...
Everton have 26 points like thirteenth-placed Swansea City and twelfth-placed Fulham. The Toffees are not yet into a relegation battle situation as they are 8 points above the bottom zone.

Pushing into the top half of the English Premier League table, however, seems very demanding for Everton. They've drawn their last 2 games in the league and they are not the favorites to triumph at Goodison Park on Tuesday night.

The good news for Manchester City is that Vincent Kompany is back from suspension. The Belgium defender received a lengthy ban for his challenge during City’s FA Cup defeat to Manchester United earlier in January.

Tottenham vs Everton: Spurs with “no chance” but to match Man United’s 45 points

Sunday January 8 2012,
Tags: Manchester United, Manchester City
It is not common to see Manchester United sharing their seat with Tottenham Hotspur, especially at such a point in the season.
Interestingly, that’s what could happen at the very end of Matchday 20. Rampant Spurs will welcome Everton on Wednesday night at White Hart Lane.

Both teams were supposed to open the 2011/12 English Premier League season. However, instability in England’s capital – due to the riots – led in the cancelation of this fixture. Finally, it is going to come on—and at a perfect time for Harry Redknapp’s men.

Yes, the atmosphere at the club is presently high and the statistics at White Hart Lane are stunning. Since their humiliating 5-1 defeat to Manchester City on August 28, Tottenham Hotspur have not lost on home soil.

Arsenal celebrate 125th anniversary with 1-0 Premier League win over Everton at Emirates Stadium.

Sunday December 11 2011,
Tags: Arsenal, Robin van Persie
Flying Dutchman Robin van Persie helped Arsenal FC celebrate their 125th year anniversary by scoring the winning goal in a 1-0 win over Everton yesterday.
The decisive goal was Van Persie’s 19th strike in all competitions this season, and his 33rd league goal of the calendar year.

The win lifted Arsenal into the top four as they continue their resurgence in form, while Everton are now five points above the relegation zone.

Arsene Wenger had warned his side to stay focused on the task at hand, and not be distracted by the pre-match festivities marking the club’s 125th birthday.

Three statues were unveiled outside the Emirates Stadium in the pre-game buildup that honored club legends Herbert Chapman, Tony Adams and Thierry Henry.

Wenger’s fears of distraction almost came to fruition with Louis Saha going close to giving Everton an early lead when he just failed to convert a goal-mouth scramble.

Manchester United in reconstruction phase at Everton after Man City catastrophe

Friday October 28 2011,
Tags: Manchester City, Denis Irwin
Manchester United are heading into Matchday 10 of the English Premier League 5 points behind bitter rivals Manchester City. Will they recover from their wounds against Everton?
Manchester United have showed down the years that they can handle pressure and former Red Devil player Denis Irwin believes in the potential of Fergie’s current team. Manchester United supporters are insisting that the club’s 6-1 defeat to local rivals Manchester City doesn’t mean the end of the world. Irwin shares this opinion.

“It's happened to us before,” he reminded during an interview with MUTV as he reflected on United's unimaginable 6-1 humiliation in the hands of the Citizens.

“I played in a team that went up to Newcastle and got beat 5-0 and, the following week, travelled down to Southampton and were beaten 6-3.

Everton vs Chelsea, Stoke vs Liverpool & Wolves vs City spice up League Cup night

Wednesday October 26 2011,
Tags: Chelsea, Everton, Manchester City, Wolves, Liverpool, Stoke City.
Fans of the English game will be treated with Carling Cup football tonight. There could be 90 minutes of good football, drama and physical tension at Goodison Park, the Britannia Stadium and at the Molineux.
Four matches will kick off with Blackburn Rovers vs Newcastle United being, arguably, the least interesting clash. At 2:45pm EST and 6:45pm GMT, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester City will get things underway. Simultaneously, Liverpool will battle it out against Stoke City at the venue where the Merseyside Reds experienced their first defeat this season.

Stoke City, being unbeaten at home domestically, are looking to upset Liverpool. Kenny Dalglish, meanwhile, is aware of the danger that his side will face tonight. Liverpool have made of the Carling Cup a priority this season so they wouldn’t want to lose this Fourth Round fixture.

Liverpool will be traveling to face Everton this weekend looking for their third straight win.
Whenever these two Merseyside neighbors meet, a weight of hype, emotion and history always engulfs the media buildup.

Here we look back at five memorable derbies played between Everton and Liverpool.

5. KING’S CORONATION – EVERTON 1 – 0 LIVERPOOL, 28 October 1978.

Everton played host to Liverpool and were desperate to end a seven year winless run against the red half of Merseyside.

London-born midfielder Andy King fired home a rocket from outside of the area to spark rapturous celebrations among the vast majority of the 53,131 crowd.

Liverpool would go on to win the league title that season, but for one day Everton had the bragging rights in the city of Liverpool.

Everton vs Liverpool kicks-off Saturday’s great English Premier League show

Where else will English Premier League fans start their Saturday than at Goodison Park? Everton vs Liverpool has been scheduled for a mouth-watering lunch time kick-off.

Liverpool's match away to Everton is the highlight of the matches in Saturday 1, October.Fortunately for the Reds, they’ve returned to normal form in time for Saturday’s Merseyside derby. Kenny Dalglish’s revolution suffered a big blow in September when Stoke City and Tottenham Hotspur forced Liverpool to accept two defeats on the trot.

But last weekend, wicked goals from Charlie Adam and Luis Suarez against Wolverhampton Wanderers brought Liverpool back in business. Just as match-day 7 is about to unfold in the English Premier League, the Merseyside Reds can look upon themselves with quite enough confidence.

They have 10 points and they seat 6 places above local rivals Everton. Note, however, that the latter have a game in hand.

Manchester City 2 Everton 0: City Display Depth and Title Credentials Against the Toffees

Saturday September 24 2011,
Tags: Manchester City, EPL, Mario Balotelli, James Milner
Manchester City moved joint top of the Premier League on Saturday with an efficient 2-0 victory over Everton at Etihad Stadium.
Temperamental striker Mario Balotelli opened the scoring for City in the 68th minute, before England midfielder James Milner wrapped up the points with his first Premier League goal for the club.

It is a sign of City’s depth that both goal scorers entered the game off the bench. With City playing well but struggling to make the breakthrough, Roberto Mancini replaced Edn Dzeko with Balotelli.

The Italian striker opened the scoring less than 10 minutes after entering the fray. Arsentine striker Sergio Aguero dribbled across the top of the 18 yard box, and deftly back heeled against the grain to Balotelli who fired past Tim Howard to put City on front.

English Premier League football will not bow down to recent violence incidents in the UK. At the exception of Spurs vs Everton, all matches will go underway as planned.

Breaking News: London violence forces cancelation of EPL opener Spurs vs Everton

Thursday August 11 2011,
The English Premier League has succumbed to the power of rioters in London as Tottenham vs Everton has been called off. Like 5 other matches, this one was scheduled for an afternoon kick-off on Saturday.
As confirmed through the fixtures list, London-based club Tottenham Hotspur had been ordained to open the 2011/12 English Premier League season with a match at White Hart Lane against Liverpool’s local rivals Everton. Manchester United Vs Everton: John O'Shea Determined To Avoid Deja Vu

Friday April 22 2011,
Tags: John O'Shea, Mikel Arteta, Tim Cahill
Manchester United were minutes away from clinching a victory in Goodison Park but two goals in injury time saw Everton claim an unlikely draw- something that O'Shea does not want experience again.
Manchester United have suffered from their poor form away from home which have seen them draw nine games while playing in opposition territories. A huge chunk of those draws are probably due to United's habit of getting complacent towards the end of a match.

The Devils were perhaps minutes away from winning the game at Goodison Park earlier in the season, before late goals from Tim Cahill and Mikel Arteta summed up their lack of concentration towards the end of the game- an incident that O'Shea deeply regrets.

He said: "If we are 3-1 up with a couple of minutes to go, I don't think the same situation would occur. My clear memory of that game is that we should have been out of sight.

Manchester United Vs Everton: We Have The Perfect Blend Of Players - Van der Sar

Friday April 22 2011,
Tags: Edwin Van Der Sar
Van der Sar certainly believes that the right blend between youth and experience is the aspect that will spur United onto their 19th Premier League title.
Manchester United are sitting comfortably at the top of the Barclays Premier League table with a six point gap. However, a brief look into their remaining fixtures tells that it isn't as easy as expected with games against Arsenal and Chelsea looming ahead.

Nevertheless, the Red Devils do need a win against Everton at Old Trafford this tomorrow and Edwin Van der Sar believes that nothing is impossible when you have the perfect mixture of youth and experience.

The Dutchman said: "On the one hand you have a young player who brings maybe enthusiasm and fresh legs. Then on the other you have the experienced guys, who have the knowledge and the composure in important situations.

Manchester United Must Get Goals Coming in Soon - Sir Alex's Challenge Against Everton

Friday April 22 2011,
It might be business as usual at Old Trafford but the league table shows that United need to aim for a huge victory over Everton in terms of goals tomorrow.

Old Trafford has virtually been a story of joy, fun and thrill as far as Manchester United are concerned this season. I mean, what else can make them happy when they have collected 52 points from an available 54 over there at the Theatre of Dreams.

And to be frank, their home form has been so impressive that it even kept United's title dream alive all season long considering how poor they have been away from home. Five wins in 17 matches hardly justifies any positive side of their form away from Old Trafford in the Premier League this season.

But hello, United are leading the pack with only a mere five games to go before the season draws it's conclusion. How better can that be when you think of how inconsistent they have been while playing in away games.

Saturday February 19 2011,
Tags: Fernando Torres, Didier Drogba, Carlo Ancelotti, Chelsea, FA Cup
Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Didier Drogba will start the FA Cup Fourth round replay clash with Everton
There were rumors that Didier Drogba was unhappy after he was dropped to the bench in Chelsea's draw with Fulham last week to accommodate Fernando Torres on the team. However, Ancelotti insists that it was a tactical decision and Drogba will start the match against Everton.

"Drogba will start," said Ancelotti. "I don't know about Nicolas Anelka, but I have to start with Drogba. It is never an easy decision to leave players out, but Didier has shown a very good reaction. He has trained well, with motivation, and he wants to play a good game tomorrow.

"From what I have seen, he's the same Didier - focusing on training and working hard with good motivation. I think he will play a fantastic game."

Louis Saha is still nursing a hamstring injury while Jack Rodwell is unlikely to play despite making a swift return from a groin injury.

Speaking to reporters, Everton boss David Moyes said: “I don't think Louis Saha has a chance. We've said at the time it will be 10-14 days and we're sticking by that, I think that will be the case.”

“Jack Rodwell's done great, he's made great strides to be fit but I think it will come too quickly for him but he's done well and hopefully he'll be available next week,” Moyes added.

Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger: “F*** Off” Abuse Against Refs – Who Cares?

Friday February 4 2011,
Tags: Arsenal, Everton, Cesc Fabregas, Arsene Wenger
No player should be banned for accusing referees with the F-word, Arsenal’s Wenger believes. Fabregas was involved in a player vs referee clash earlier this week and Wenger has defended the Arsenal skipper.
Arsenal’s English Premier League match against Everton was marked by controversy as the Gunners were 1-0 down at half time through Louis Saha’s blatant offside goal. In the tunnel, Captain Cesc Fabregas reportedly accused Everton players of bribing referee Lee Mason.

David Moyes then slammed the Spaniard for having said disrespectful comments to the match official which he “would not even repeat”. According to the Everton boss, Fabregas should have been flashed the red card for his attitude.

But Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger thinks that even the F-word abuse told by players against referees shouldn’t be punished. As he defended the Arsenal skipper, Wenger told The Sun:

Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas: Nothing Serious Happened In Tunnel Against Everton

Wednesday February 2 2011,
Tags: Cesc Fabregas, Arsenal, Everton, Premier League
Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas has admitted that he was involved in a discussion with the referee during the half-time interval of the Gunner’s game against Everton, but insisted that ‘nothing serious happened’.
Fabregas showed signs of fury when his side went down 1-0 following what looked like a controversial goal from Everton’s Luis Saha. The Spaniard was convinced that the goal was offside, and thus made his complaints to Referee Lee Mason, who obviously did not reverse his decision to allow the goal.

This caused Fabregas to follow the referee in the tunnel at half-time, making all efforts to justify his point; but his action was rather judged as inacceptable by the Everton manager David Moyes. Coach Arsene Wenger initially denied that Cesc had even spoken to the referee at the break, but the Arsenal midfielder came out with a brighter version of the story.

Arsenal Injury News: Samir Nasri To Miss Everton And Barcelona Games

Arsenal superstar Samir Nasri is expected to miss the Gunners’ games against Everton in the Premier League and against FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League due to a hamstring injury.
Nasri is reported to have obtained his wound at the weekend while playing against Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup. It is still not confirmed until when Nasri will have stay away from the pitch, but Arsenal Coach Arsene Wenger is already irritated by the situation.

"Nasri looks to have a serious hamstring injury," he said. "Usually it is three weeks (out of action, but) we have to see if it is a grade one because that can be two (weeks).

"It is a big blow... How big? I do not know because the results in the future will tell, but it is a big blow.
