The departing centre half has expressed his belief that Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard will extend his contract at the club, and further reiterated that the lifelong Kop servant will end his career at Anfield only.
The English midfielder has been part of the Liverpool set-up for the past 15 years and has provided the fans with some of the most breathtaking moments.

The influential captain has represented Liverpool in 436 matches, scoring 159 goals in the process. Gerrard’s performances are filled with vigor, individual brilliance, neat passes, powerful shots and most importantly commendable passion. He showcases the never die spirit which is very essential in the game of football, and after he was named captain back in October 2003 he has led his team by example and has been a great inspiration for his teammates.

Even though his increasing age might be a concern with Gerrard turning 33 this May, his importance to the club is unquestionable. The Liverpool skipper has managed nine assists in the league only one behind Chelsea’s Juan Mata, and has coupled them with an equal amount of goals this term.

His long time ally Jamie Carragher who is due to retire this summer, is of the opinion that his captain will follow his path and end his career as a one club man.

"I'm sure Stevie will sign a contract and finish his career at Liverpool the way I've done," Carragher told reporters.

His quality and importance to Liverpool was evident in yesterday’s game against Aston Villa, when Gerrard was inspirational to a Liverpool victory. The midfield maestro was calm from the spot as he converted a penalty and made a goal-line clearance to ensure that Liverpool grab all three points.

“Steve will be finishing his career at Liverpool. He is 'captain fantastic' every week. It's not just against Villa. He's been doing it for years, scoring at one end, saving at the other." Continued Carragher

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers echoed Carragher’s words, and expressed his desire to have his star midfielder sign a contract before it expires in the summer of 2014.

Rodgers said: “He was in a bit of pain and struggling to get a boot on.

Rodgers praised his captain of putting up a star display, despite playing with a minor injury.

“He had to get an injection in his heel before the match. It was nothing major but many other players might not have played.

“He’s a remarkable man. Look at his fitness level and his running ability.

The Liverpool boss was lost for words for Gerrard and praised his remarkable attitude and commitment to the team.

“He has been like that the majority of the season. A real inspirational man, a top. top player who has hunger and desire for Liverpool to succeed.”

“I can’t speak highly enough of him. To work with the man has been phenomenal to me.”

Liverpool are surely not ready to lose their star man as yet, he has been around through thick and thin for the club. Whereas other stars left Liverpool to seek greener pastures elsewhere, Gerrard stood loyal to the club which gave him his breakthrough.

The England and Liverpool captain is yet to win a single Premier League title, and if he ends the career without one he might verily be among the best players to have never won a league title in England.
