In the latest transfer news from Liverpool, Maxi Rodriguez returned to former team Newell’s Old Boys as coach Brendan Rodgers completed the signing of striker Fabio Borini.
Brendan Rodgers knows Fabio Borini very well. He coached the striker at Chelsea and Swansea City previously. Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, the 39-year-old manager declared:

“The supporters are going to love him. He's a big talent, 21 years of age, he scores goals, and his passion, focus and concentration is a very important part of his game - and a big part of what you want from a player.”

Brendan Rodgers looked back at the player’s career, adding:

“I've known him since he had just turned 16 years of age. We [Chelsea] took him in from Bologna when he was 16 and he progressed incredibly well as a young player to go on to play for the first team at Chelsea.

“It didn't work out in terms of he couldn't agree a contract, but before he left I took him on loan to Swansea and he made a big, big impression there and really helped us in our promotion charge that season.”

Former Liverpool player Jan Molby compared Fabio Borini to Giuseppe Rossi who quickly adapted to Villarreal’s style of play after leaving Manchester United. Backing Brendan Rodgers’ belief in Borini, Molby told the press:

“He’s exactly the kind of player who will fit into the system Brendan wants to play. Technically, Borini is very good, he has two good feet, his movement is excellent and he’s a goalscorer.

“The manager has spoken about playing 4-4-3 and Borini could slot in anywhere along that front line.”

Fabio Borini made 26 appearances and scored 10 goals in his one-year spell at AS Roma. He was part of Italy’s national team at UEFA Euro 2012.

However, he is yet to play a competitive match at the senior international level. His Liverpool transfer may facilitate his development for the Azzurri under Cesare Prandelli ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
