Monterrey vs Nashville - Team news

Monterrey are the last team standing from the Mexican Primera División, and that honor has not come easy for Fernando Ortíz and his team. "El Tano" and his men made it past the group stage in first place after beating Real Salt Lake (3-0), and Seattle Sounders (4-2). Los Rayados would go on to beat Portland and Tigres UANL, both of them with similar one-nil scores, and once in the Quarter finals, the club managed to overcome Los Angeles FC despite being down two-nil after 45 minutes. With Germán Berterame out for the rest of the season, the team will rely on the experience of Rogelio Funes Mori and Sergio Canales, the new arrival for Rayados, to try and make it to the title match.

On the other side of the pitch, Nashville want to make it an all-MLS final in this year's Leagues Cup while also defending their performance in the tournament. The Boys in Gold reached the KO stage by winning one game in their group, while losing a tough 4-3 game against Toluca. Once in the Round of 32, Nashville needed penalties to eliminate Cincinnati FC from the tournament after a one-all draw, and in their next game, Gary Smith's men eliminated América in another controversial penalty shootout. Once they went past las Águilas, the club went on to beat Minnesota United 5-0 to become one of the final four teams in the competition. Sam Surridge and Hany Mukhtar, both with two goals, are the team's top scorers in the competition.

Unfortunately, both teams will have to make do without some of their players. Here is the list of unavailable footballers for this Leagues Cup tie.

Monterrey: Arturo González, Axel Grijalva, Germán Berterame (injured).

Nashville: Nick DePuy (injured).

Monterrey vs Nashville: Head-to-head

  • This will be the first-ever game between Monterrey and Nashville.

  • Nashville will face a Mexican team for the fourth time in history. Their record so far shows two wins (both against América) and a loss against Toluca.

  • Nashville will become the ninth different MLS team Monterrey get to face in their history.

  • Rayados will be looking to improve their performance against U.S.-based teams, having won fourteen of their 18 previous fixtures against American opposition.

  • This will be the second meeting between Nashville's boss Gary Smith and Rayados' tactician Fernando Ortíz. Their other meeting ended in a win for Nashville last year, when Ortíz was in charge of coaching América.
