The English shot-stopper was attacked by a disgruntled Spurs fan following the final whistle, leading the a tussle between both sets of players.

Arsenal might have enjoyed a tremendous 90 minutes on the pitch in Sunday's North London Derby, but that thrilling clash between Tottenham and Arsenal sadly ended on a sour note.

Mikel Arteta's men traveled to Spurs knowing that a win over their bitter rivals would see them move eight points clear at the top of the table, and while recent history did not favor them, the high-flying Gunners came away with the impressive three points.

An own goal from Hugo Lloris and a beautiful effort from Martin Odegaard handed the visitors a commanding 2-0 first-half lead but Saka and Co. still conceded a number of opportunities to Conte's men. Here's where Aaron Ramsdale stepped up to the plate, making several key stops to earn his side a clean sheet and a 2-0 victory.

However, after the keeper and a set of Tottenham supporters exchanged banter during the game, one disgruntled Spurs fan decided to vent his frustration at the Englishman and attack him after the final whistle.

The former Sheffield United keeper was already being harassed by Richarlison as he went to pick up his water bottle and gloves right behind his goal. Just as he picked up the two items and turned around to head for the away supporters, the aforementioned fan climbed on top of the advertising board and kicked the Arsenal ace.

Stewards immediately got involved and prevented the issue from escalating further but this sparked anger online due to the failure to protect the safety of a professional player. Check out the incident in the clips below (videos are geo-restricted).

Fans and pundits were enraged by this disgraceful action and it did not take long for Tottenham to react, with the North London side issuing an immediate statement in which they condemned the incident and promised to take action against the perpetrator.

"We are appalled by the behavior of a supporter that attempted to attack Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale at the end of today's match. Violence in any form has no place in football," Spurs stated.

"The club has reviewed its CCTV footage to identify the supporter and will be working with the Met Police, Arsenal, and Aaron Ramsdale to take the strongest possible action, including an immediate ban from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium."

Likewise, the FA also released a statement, condemning the spectator and promising to work with the police and the involved parties in order to dish out punishment.

A tussle broke out between the two sets of players following that incident but a quick intervention from Mikel Arteta and his coaching staff helped break things up as the Spaniard dragged his men to celebrate in front of their traveling fans.

Speaking after the final whistle, Ramsdale revealed that he had a back-and-forth with the rival fans. As a result, he celebrated the full-time result by turning to the Tottenham supporters right behind his goal and kissing the Arsenal badge.

Nonetheless, this does not excuse any physical assault, with the keeper admitting that the kick to his back meant that a beautiful game of football ended in a sour taste.

"The Spurs fans gave me some throughout the game," Ramsdale told Sky Sports.

"I was giving some back. The people I did give it to greeted it in sportsmanlike terms but one fan tried to give me a little punch on the back.

"It is a shame as it is just a game of football at the end of the day. Both sets of players tried to bring me away but thankfully nothing too drastic happened.

"It is a sour taste but I'm sure we will enjoy it when we go back into the dressing room."
