Roma's hands were tied!

From 15 goals for Roma in Serie A last season to 28 goals in 30 EPL games for Liverpool this season, it is safe to say that Mohamed Salah in the undisputed signing of last summer. The Egyptian forward has taken the Premiership by the scruff of its neck and has currently made it his life’s mission to obliterate any record in sight.

For that matter fans of his former side have, in recent times, lamented the fee involved in his transfer to Merseyside as his output this season makes the 35 million pounds paid for his services seem like peanuts. Nonetheless, the man in-charge of determining who stays and who leaves AS Roma, Ramon “Monchi” Rodriguez, believes that his side got the best deal possible despite the latest reservations.

“On Salah there are two important things to understand,” Monchi said while addressing Rome’s Foreign Press Association on Wednesday.

“First, Salah was sold before the Neymar effect revolutionized the market. Second, we had a necessity to sell Salah before June 30.”

In Monchi’s defense, Roma risked facing FFP penalties from UEFA and, as a result, needed to make some sales by the end of June in order to balance their books. With Liverpool inquiring about Mohamed Salah during that period, the time was just perfect to let the forward go.

“Anyone who understands a bit of this business knows that that’s like having a sword pointed at your neck,” Monchi added.

“So taking into account these two conditions I think we made a sale that was fairly big.”

Mohamed Salah currently boasts 36 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions and is in keen contention for the European Golden Shoe accolade this season.
