Match Facts & Stats

  • Man Utd are undefeated in their last 19 home matches
  • Everton have failed to win their last 10 away matches
  • Man Utd have drawn their last 3 matches against Everton in all competitions
  • Koeman is unbeaten in three matches against United, while he is yet to taste defeat against a Jose Mourinho side after five matches - four have ended in draws

Will Wayne Rooney come back to haunt his former side?

Manchester United currently come into this game having secured a hard-fought 3-0 win over Swiss outfit Basel in the Champions League midweek. However, that victory came at a price, as Paul Pogba is out for at least a month due a hamstring injury, which certainly is a major blow for Jose Mourinho's side. Nonetheless, the Red Devils have more than enough reinforcements to somewhat cope with the French star's absence, namely Marouane Fellaini, who despite being widely unpopular with fans, put in a good shift after coming in off the bench and netted the team's opener against Basel earlier this week.

Antonio Valencia, Phil Jones and Eric Bailly are among those who likely will feature in the starting XI after not participating in the Champions League tie, whilst Romelu Lukaku is expected to lead the line against his former side. Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney, who in essence has swapped places with Lukaku is set to feature versus his former colleagues and will be desperate to make a huge impact after departing Old Trafford this summer. Everton come into this game also having featured midweek in European action, albeit Ronald Koeman's side did not get the result they had expected.

In fact, they were shocked to lose 3-0 to Serie A side Atalanta, and Koeman will be expected to make some big changes to the squad after that surprise defeat. Idrissa Gueye, Jordan Pickford, Ashley Williams and Sandro Ramirez are among those who could be recalled into the starting line-up for this fixture. Despite Everton's bad away record, Koeman himself has a pretty strong showing against Manchester United. In fact, he's unbeaten in his three showings against the Red Devils, and has yet to lose to Mourinho in five prior meetings.
