The Atletico Madrid striker was left unconscious, with his team-mates preventing him from swallowing his own tongue.

On Thursday, Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres suffered a horrendous head injury that had fans and players alike wishing him a speedy recovery. El Nino took to the field in their clash with Deportivo, but was knocked out before hitting his skull on the floor.

Team-mates rushed to prevent him from swallowing his tongue. The Spaniard was unconscious and thus rushed to the hospital for overnight treatment after being attended to by medics on the field.

On Friday, Los Rojiblancos announced great news: the 32-year-old has already been released from hospital. Torres suffered no traumatic injuries, as revealed by an MRI scan, and was thus discharged. However, the striker will have 48 hours of sports rest.

The striker needed a neck brace after the collision of heads, but the player was already reassuring his fans of his condition by midnight. He said: "Thank you all for caring for me and for your messages of encouragement, it was only a scare."

Torres was visited at the hospital by Alex Bergantinos, the player involved in the nasty collision with the Spaniard, and the Deportivo manager that same night.
