Although it is unofficially official, Manchester United are – and reportedly leading – the race to sign Atetico Madrid superstar Antoine Griezmann. The Frenchman’s future in Spain is under question, as rumors continue to link him with a Vicente Calderon exit.
The Red Devils, having fallen off the throne of English football upon Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, have taken huge measures to regain their Premier League supremacy. One of those steps was spending big in the transfer market.
However, despite being one of the world’s biggest clubs, and boasting the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba, Griezmann could snub a move to Old Trafford – for one reason.
According to The Sun, the 25-year-old will turn down a lucrative deal with Manchester United if they fail to qualify for the Champions League. Having missed out on the competition this season, Mourinho’s boys – sixth in the table – may not qualify once again.
This coincides with Griezmann’s reason for wanting out of Los Rojiblancos: it’s not about money, but rather enjoying success at the highest level of football. Mourinho is willing to trigger the player’s £85m release clause, nonetheless.
