The first crucial test for Chile in the second round of the World Cup Qualifiers will have to be solved without one of their best assets, as Alexis Sánchez has been ruled out of the first match of the ongoing international break due to injury.
La Roja's medical staff remains hopeful of the player's chances of featuring against Uruguay, as Arsenal's striker will keep working with the team instead of returning to England.
"The National Team's medical staff revealed that striker Alexis Sánchez left the team's training session with a minor calf injury. The footballer will remain training in Santiago, where he'll be assessed prior to the start of the game against Uruguay," the short press release stated.
Sánchez is set to miss Thursday's game against Colombia, where La Roja will try to keep their fifth spot in CONMEBOL's qualifiers. Earlier this month, Chile was awarded two points on the table against Bolivia, since La Verde used an ineligible player in the game they drew back in October.
Here are CONMEBOL's standings after 10 games played.
This news will be closely followed by Arsenal's medical staff and coach, Arsene Wenger, since the Gunners will travel to Manchester right after the international break to face Manchester United.
