It's arguably one of the most widely watched competitions in club football, and after a summer full of play-off action, the 2016/2017 Champions League group stage will start this Tuesday. A total of 32 teams from 17 different footballing confederations will be hoping to lift the coveted trophy this June at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.
As the tournament progresses, there will be plenty of interesting stories to follow. In addition, Real Madrid, who are the most decorated side in this competition with 11 titles, will be seeking to set another record. Since the competition's reformat in 1992, no team has managed to defend their crown. The last side to achieve this was AC Milan in 1989 and 1990.
