Team news

USWNT

Team USA come into this match having topped their group, but feeling a bit disgruntled following a rather disappointing performance against Colombia. Although they had already qualified for the next round, it's never good to concede two goals, and unfortunately, saw two standing records fall that night. The first was their previously unbeaten run against the South American side, which prior to the game, stood as five. And the second was their clean sheets record. During that match, Jill Ellis's side out-shot the Colombians by 16 to three; however, their opponents made all their efforts on target compared to the USA's eight.

In any case, Ellis opted to rotate her squad somewhat, with both Carli Lloyd and Alex Morgan not even playing the full match. Both, naturally, will be featuring from the start as the reigning champions aim to take one step closer to defending their gold medal.

Sweden

This will be a very interesting game for Swedish coach Pia Sundhage, who has a long history with the USA. She was on the tactician's bench when the Stars and Stripes clinched their 2008 and 2012 Olympic gold medals, and played for her nation during the 1996 edition in which Sweden lost 2-1. Last year, the two cancelled each other out in the Women's World Cup, whilst Sundhage herself was on the pitch during the inaugural World Cup final back in 1991, during which the Stars and Stripes won 3-2.

Sweden so far, however, have not impressed in this tournament. They only managed a 1-0 win over minnows South Africa, had to settle for a frustrating scoreless draw with fallen giants China, and were thrashed 5-1 by hosts and Olympic favorites Brazil.
