El Tri picks up the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers with the goal of going three-for-three in their group games, but Canada won't make it easy despite appearances.

Group A of the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers will confirm its current leader or have a new one appointed when Mexico travels to Vancouver in order to clash against Canada. Juan Carlos Osorio's team has won all of their games since the Colombian took over as El Tri's head coach back in October, and he will certainly try to add another win that could almost assure their presence in the final round of the Russia 2018 Qualifiers.

On the other hand, Canada's unbeaten run faces quite a threat on Friday, since no team in the group owns the firepower Mexico will display. A win against Honduras and a draw against El Salvador keep their hopes of progress alive, but the couple of games against El Tri will end up being crucial to secure their place in the Final Round, where 6 teams will battle for three and a half tickets for the global tournament.

Neither team has conceded goals in this qualifying round, but El Tri's strikers have proven to be quite useful after scoring five times, while Canada has only been able to score once in two games.

Canada

Coach Benito Floro has been digging under the stones to provide talent for this squad in order to get them back to the final round of the qualifiers for the first time in 18 years. The Spaniard has put together a fine squad, but their real hopes will be determined by the outcome of the games against El Tri.

Les Rouges will depend highly on three names to lead them to success in this couple of games. Veteran midfielder Julian De Guzmán, Montreal Impact's Maxim Tissot, and Orlando City's Cyle Larin. These footballers will have to try to lead Canada when they step on the pitch, since their skills are far more superior than those from their team-mates.

Mexico

Most of Mexico's top guns will be available for coach Juan Carlos Osorio, including legendary center back Rafa Márquez and current PSV co-captain Andrés Guardado. Javier Hernández, Mexico's most in-form striker, will also be present with El Tri in order to get closer to Jared Borgetti as the team's all-time top scorer.

This will be Mexico's second game away from the Azteca Stadium, and El Tri will try to repeat a successful outing such as the one they enjoyed against Honduras. Their WC Qualifiers started with a 3-0 home win against El Salvador, in a game that they could have easily won by a wider margin, but their strikers were not lucky in front of goal.

Head to head

This will be the 30th meeting between Canada and Mexico, and El Tri dominates every category against Les Rouges. The Mexicans have won 17 games, while Canada's NT has managed to win 5, with their latest victory taking place more than 16 years ago, during the 2000 Gold Cup Quarter Finals. The most recent game between these teams took place eight years ago, and Mexico fought back from a two-goal deficit to end the game with a draw.
