Frank Lampard has aired his views regarding the right man to succeed Louis Van Gaal at Old Trafford.

Former Chelsea player Frank Lampard has urged Premier League side Manchester United to hire Jose Mourinho as their next coach.

The former England international claims that with the arrival of Pep Guardiola at Manchester City at the end of the season, the Red Devils will need the services of the former Chelsea boss in order to keep up with the competition that is expected next season.

Lampard’s comments come after Man United’s 1-0 loss in the hands of West Brom at The Hawthorns. The defeat now means that The Red Devils have to work extra hard to gather maximum points in their remaining fixtures if they want to qualify for the Champions League this season.

With the confirmed arrival of Pep Guardiola at Man City, the resurgence of Leicester City, the influence of Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs, and the constant threat from Arsenal, the Old Trafford outfit has been advised to act fast or lose their dominance in the Premier League.

Speaking to the The Mirror, the New York City FC midfielder said:

"If I’m in charge at United and I see Pep Guardiola going to Manchester City, Jose would be top of my list

"Jose will get the best out of the players there. He will recruit top players.

"They are not happy with where they are at. It’s a good option for both United and Jose. It's a good fit."

The Portuguese tactician has been linked with the Old Trafford job at the end of the season as LVG’s replacement.
