Manchester United and Valencia are reportedly in the race for the talented England international.

The Daily Mail reports that the Leicester striker’s father did not know about his son until when the Mail on Sunday contacted him last week.

His father, Richard Gill, reportedly dumped his girlfriend Lisa when Jamie, their son, was still a baby, after getting another woman pregnant.

During the interview with Mail on Sunday, the 52-year-old revealed:

"I am completely overwhelmed and staggered to find out how famous my son is.''

"Until last week, I had never even heard of Jamie Vardy, let alone realised that he was my son.’’

"I am not really interested in football. But now I will be watching the results more closely and following his career."

At the age of 28, Vardy became the Premier League top scorer after setting a new record of scoring in 11 consecutive matches. He had successfully toppled Ruud Van Nistelrooy, who had scored in 10 consecutive matches for Man United in 2003.

Gill even attended Leicester’s 3-0 win over Swansea to watch his son play for the first time and he expressed his regret after walking out of his life.

"It is a real shame that things did not turn out differently.''

"But his mother and I were really young and I completely lost touch with them after we broke up.''

"I would love to turn back the clock, but it is not possible.''

"If he would like to meet me, that would be great but I understand that he might not want to have anything to do with me.''

"Either way, it's been fantastic watching him play.''

"I will remember that for the rest of my life."

Vardy has since become a hot transfer target with reports linking him with a possible move to Manchester United or Valencia next summer.
