La Liga president Javier Tebas has revealed that he would love to see the Manchester United duo of Wayne Rooney and David De Gea playing in the Spanish league.

During an interview with Spanish newspaper AS, the 53-year-old, who is also a Real Madrid fan, revealed:

''I'd like to have seen Rooney play in Spain.''

''I'd like to have seen a Premier League icon play in our league, but there's also [Franck] Ribery.''

"De Gea is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and I wish he played in our league, regardless of who for."

The president noted that the duo would easily adapt to life in Spain and follow the likes of Neymar and James Rodriguez who have found a new home in Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.

He added:

"In light of how quickly they've [Neymar and James] adapted to a new environment, they've been a boost for the league.

"[Bale] has also been a big pull. He's a star of the highest level and having a big impact on Wales.''

"In addition, Madrid have helped Bale to have more of an international presence."

The Manchester United goalkeeper had been linked to a possible move to Spanish giants real Madrid but the deal failed to materialize due to last-minute paperwork complications. However, despite the transfer deadline day drama and disappointment, Los Blancos have found a perfect match for De Gea in Keylor Navas. As a result, Madrid’s interest in De Gea seemed to have faded.

The Costa Rican had been in great form for the Santiago Bernabeu side before picking up an injury midway through the season. Before picking up an injury, Navas had made 46 saves for Real Madrid in 9 appearances this season. In the Champions League, he made four saves and kept three clean sheets.

Wayne Rooney is struggling to create a positive impact at Old Trafford this season and has since become a pale shadow of his previous self. Out of 11 appearances this season in the Premier League, he has scored only two goals with no assists. On the other hand, De Gea has made 21 saves this season in the Premier League, and kept five clean sheets.

Tebas’ recent revelations have been seen as a mind game to lure the duo to Spain during the January transfer window. With pressure mounting on the England international to perform, he risks losing his starting position in Louis Van Gaal’s squad if Man United signs a new striker in January, and a trip to Spain could be a possible option for the 30-year-old.
