Buoyed by their 3-0 thumping of Everton at Goodison Park, Premier League side Manchester United travels away to Moscow for a crucial Champions League tie against CSKA Moscow.

A win for the Red Devils at the Russian capital will increase their chance of leading Group B. The Red Devils lost their opening game 2-1 away to PSV Eindhoven but bounced back at home to beat Wolfsburg by a similar margin.

Team news

CSKA Moskva

CSKA will most likely play without Bibras Natkho who suffered a concussion and Vasili Berezutski who has a thigh injury. Leonid Slutsky may stick with the same line-up that beat PSV as they face the Red Devils on Wednesday. However, Roman Eremenko is available for selection to fill Natkho’s absence. Slutsky’s men will rely on Manchester United’s unpredictable away form, having lost crucial matches away to Swansea City, Arsenal and PSV.

Ahmed Musa of CSKA Moscow celebrates his opening goal against Rostov in August. The 23-year-old forward has fired a warning shot at Manchester United ahead of their Wednesday clash.

Antonio Valencia makes a return for the Red Devils after missing the away match against Everton. Sergio Romero is also expected to feature in the match, while Bastian Schweinsteiger may not feature due to a knee injury. Ashley Young and Paddy McNair have also been ruled out of the away fixture due to calf and abdominal injuries respectively.

Louis Van Gaal could retain the same squad that won away against Everton, although Michael Carrick and Daley Blink may return to the starting line-up against the Russian side.

Meanwhile, Juan Mata has backed Antonio Valencia to shine against CSKA Moskva on Wednesday. The Ecuador winger scored the only goal of the match the last time the Reds visited the current Russian Premier League leaders in the group stages of the 2009-2010 Champions League Campaign.

Antonio Valencia scores the third goal of the match against CSKA Moscow at Old Trafford in the second leg of the Champions League fixture in 2009.

"I've been told that Antonio Valencia scored the winner for United the last time the team visited CSKA, so we will ask him for the secret to beat them because they haven't lost at home this season, both in the group stage and in the previous rounds,’’ wrote Mata on his blog
