Her contract had expired a week ago. Ellis holds a 29-2-9 record as the head-coach of the USWNT.

One of the most important pieces in taking the United States to claim a third world title in women's soccer has agreed to renew her contract with the United States Women's National Team. Jill Ellis, the 48-year old coach decided she wants to continue with a project she took on as head coach in May 2014.

Ellis helped the team achieve something they had fallen short off just four years earlier against Japan. In a re-match of the 2011 final, a hat-trick of Carli Lloyd pushed the USWNT past Japan with ease. The 5-2 scoreboard in the final made it the highest-scoring final in the history of women's soccer.

"What Jill did and the coaching staff did from start to finish earned us this World Cup," Lloyd, who was recognized as the M.V.P. of the tournament said.

Before signing her contract extension, Ellis earned a base salary of $215,000. The salary of Jurgen Klinsmann, the manager of the USMNT is almost ten times higher. While the new terms of her contract were not revealed, she should be getting a better paycheck from here on out.

"She met that challenge with tremendous passion and knowledge to win what was perhaps the most difficult Women's World Cup tournament in history,'' U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati mentioned to the press.

Ellis' next big challenge is winning the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. The veteran manager knows that her job will not be easy and that the team that will travel to Brazil will be different from the one that went to Canada this summer.

"It will be the job of the players and staff to keep up the world-class level of effort and intensity to meet the high expectations of this program," Ellis claimed. Her new contract has her as the USWNT coach for France 2019.

The team will play a victory tour of four games across the United States to celebrate becoming the nation with the most titles in women's soccer. Sales for the games against Costa Rica and Australia have been higher than expected by the organizers. There is already one sold-out game for a tour that begins on August 16.
