Having already signed superstar goalkeeper Petr Cech from neighbors Chelsea, English Premier League giants Arsenal are looking to recruit another big profile name from a rival club, this time from 20-time champions Manchester United.

The Gunners, despite being in the search for a defensive midfielder to provide competition for Francis Coquelin, are reportedly plotting a swoop for Argentine attacker Angel Di Maria.

The former Real Madrid man, fresh of his national side’s Copa America final defeat to Chile, joined the Red Devils only last season in a British record fee of £59.7m.

However, despite his hefty price tag, and coming of a tremendous season with Los Blancos in which they won La Decima (their 10th Champions League title), Di Maria failed to impress and prove his worth in his debut campaign in England.

Despite collecting 10 assists, El Fideo only netted three goals, making only 20 appearances throughout the entire season, being dropped for several important games. Furthermore, his future at the Theatre of Dreams is under question, with the arrival of Memphis Depay from Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven further threatening his position at the club.

Le Prof, a fan of Di Maria who tried on two previous occasions to sign the 27-year-old, will move for the Argentine ace if the chance reveals itself, but only if the deal matches the north London side’s financial capabilities, given Angel’s £280,000-per-week salary.

Manchester United also appear unwilling to sell to a direct rival, with foreign clubs such as PSG and Bayern Munich rumored to be interested in Di Maria’s services.
