The USMNT enter the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup with one expectation: to win it. Odds are in their favour even if Group A could be seen as a tricky one.
So the Americans may currently not be the best in their region but there are the strongest team in Group A, 27 places above their closest FIFA World Ranking rivals Panama (54th) and well above Honduras who are only 75th in the world and out of the Top 5 best CONCACAF nations.
Prior to the start of the tournament and this month’s release of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking in Men’s Football (scheduled two days after the opening day of the Gold Cup), the standings are as follows:

The USMNT should be able to qualify from their group without any problem. They’ve built confidence through great performances and results in the build-up to the Gold Cup. The team is fresh from demolishing Guatemala 4-0 in a pre-tournament warm-up. Before that, they stunned the Netherlands 4-3 and reigning World Cup champions Germany 2-1 in international friendly matches. That is no fluke.
The question, however, is whether the USMNT will be able to seduce the public as well as the USWNT – led by legendary captain Carli Lloyd – did throughout the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Ratings for the FIFA WWC were high. New records were set on FOX and Telemundo.
