Anfield Road said good bye to one of their most legendary players. Steven Gerrard played his final home game with Liverpool, vowing to return and stating he was "devastated" by having to leave the Reds.
Fans carried a number of signs thanking Gerrard for his 17 years with the team, while he thanked them by stating they were the best football fans a player could ask. Carrying one of his daughters, Gerrard also praised all his former team-mates, thanking them for the influence they had in his development as a player.
While the evening was meant to be a celebration, the team could not fulfill their role on the pitch and ended up losing 3-1.
Before the legendary Number 8 walked around the pitch to thank fans, he shared with those in attendance what was his favorite moment as a Liverpool footballer.
"The very first time I played football at Anfield Road was like a dream come true, everything else after that was a bonus for me," Gerrard stated, visibly moved.

Gerrard's career summed up one game. A genius, extraordinary player surrounded by mediocre, over paid players. He made Liverpool a success.

That's what made Gerrard so good. He HAD to do everything himself. We'll be lucky to see a player like him anytime soon.
