Manchester United's season seemed to be destined for failure months ago, but Louis Van Gaal's men have managed to turn things around and have momentarily taken over Manchester City's place in the Premier League standings after beating Aston Villa for the 12th time in their last 13 games at Old Trafford.
Ander Herrera's brace and Wayne Rooney's amazing volley sealed the deal for United, who had some complications after Christian Benteke scored Villa's goal just after Rooney had made it 2-0. With his goal, Rooney is just seven goals shy of tying Denis Law as Manchester United's all-time No.2 striker. He has scored 230 goals for the Red Devils, and next season could watch him become the team's all-time top scorer. Furthermore, Rooney scored his 96th goal playing at Old Trafford, the only man to score as many goals while performing at United's stadium.
Rooney's volley made him a world-wide trending topic on Twitter, giving United fans something to brag about, added to their recently accomplished third spot in the Premier League. Have a look at what fans had to say about their captain!

Even if Rooney is having a bad game, you do not take him off. That goal was perfection, and executed by a champion.

10 assists for Di Maria, not bad for a flop..... Rooney scores his 13th goal against Villa, he has 12 against City, time to make it 13

Rooney always effects the game positively, even when playing poorly.

Wonder where #mufc would be if LvG had seen the light earlier and played Herrera and Mata and had Rooney up front all season
