So, English Premier League champions Chelsea thrashed promoted club West Bromwich Albion 6-0 to affirm their authority at the top of the table. What can last season’s runners-up Manchester United do on Monday when they host another promoted side, Newcastle United, at Old Trafford?

Dimitar Berbatov celebrates with his Manchester United team mates after scoring against Chelsea in the Community Shield.Striker Dimitar Berbatov stressed the importance of a victory for his side tonight as last weekend’s biggest winners Chelsea arguably look to be the English Premier League’s fiercest title contenders.

“They [Chelsea] are likely to be our main rivals for the title. The [Community Shield] victory definitely gave everyone – the players, the staff, and the fans – a big lift,” Berbatov explained to United Review as he made the difference between Chelsea’s strength and Manchester United’s vital start to the season through their Community Shield triumph.

Dimitar Berbatov continued:

“It will count for nothing though if we don’t start the league season with a win against Newcastle on Monday. We know that it is going to be a difficult game.”

“Even though a few of the players were away last week with their national teams, we have prepared well and we have been training hard every day to make sure we start the season with three points.”

Three points will be just enough for Manchester United to kick off their English Premier League campaign on a good note contrarily to what happened two years ago when they drew 1-1 with Newcastle United. Ironically, the Red Devils smashed the Magpies 6-0 in Manchester three seasons ago. So a repeat of this score line will see the newly crowned Community Shield winners join Chelsea at the top of the English Premier League table.

We remind you of how Manchester United humiliated Newcastle United with 6 second half goals back in January 2008. Enjoy the video highlights below and get further details on tonight’s match by visiting the Manchester United vs Newcastle United Live Streaming and TV Schedule page.
