Manuel Pellegrini's side could not take advantage of their go ahead goal by Fernandinho and gave away two crucial points against the Toffees.

Manchester City could not hold their lead against Everton today, resulting in a draw that hurts the Sky Blues' chances of repeating last year's championship. Manuel Pellegrini's men dominated most of the game, but were not able to establish their dominance on the scoreboard, leaving the first place of the Premier League to Chelsea.

After a first half that could have been a lot better, the Citizens tried hard to dominate the home team. Pellegrini's men went ahead after 74 minutes with an inside-the-box header by Fernandinho, who had started a counter attack seconds before. The Toffees struck back almost immediately, when Leighton Baines assisted Steven Naismith for the equalizer after a miscalculation by Joe Hart. This was Baines' 45th assist ever, making him the English top flight's all-time assist leader among defenders.

Incredibly, Everton were closer to winning the match when Kevin Mirallas dribbled past Eliaquim Mangala and almost scored past Hart. The Sky Blues left the pitch rather disappointed, since they had the ball most of the time and had to pay the price for Hart's mistakes.
