The Paris Saint-Germain defender admits to being blown away by the Argentine's brilliance in Wednesday's 3-1 loss at Camp Nou.

Paris Saint-Germain defender David Luiz claims that Argentine striker Lionel Messi is “the best player ever”, whilst hailing Luis Enrique's side's efficiency, after the Barcelona star led his side to a 3-1 win over the Ligue 1 title holders in the UEFA Champions League, on Wednesday.

Despite trailing to the French side after only 15 minutes, conceding to former Blaugrana star Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Messi pulled the Catalan giants back level four minutes later, with Neymar adding a second in the 42nd minute, before La Pulga played an influential part in Barcelona's third goal of the night.

The victory over Laurent Blanc's crew means La Liga giants finish as group leaders, with Paris Saint-Germain surrendering top spot to the Blaugrana, meaning they will face a group winner, except Monaco, in the round of 16.

“It’s the efficiency that made the difference,” David Luiz said. “They were better than us; they have three huge forwards. Messi is fantastic, the best player ever.

“Barca also have a smart head coach and other great players.”

The former Chelsea defender also added: “We will now think about the next step. The next game will be difficult. We’ll have to beat everybody to go all the way. In February we could play anyone."
