According to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, Cristiano Ronaldo's fine form in front of goal will play against Argentine attacker Lionel Messi's “morale”.
The Real Madrid star, who surpassed European Championships' all-time top-scorer Jon Dahl Tomasson on Friday with his 23rd strike, kicked off this season with a bang, topping the Spanish Primera Division goalscoring charts with 18 goals in 10 fixtures, 25 in all competitions for Los Blancos, who lead La Liga, two points ahead of second-placed Barcelona.
Lionel Messi, on the other hand, who despite equalizing Raul's all-time Champions League goalscoring record, hasn't been enjoying the most prolific of seasons, netting 11 times for the Blaugrana, less than half of what the Portuguese attacker has managed so far.
This was something Le Prof pointed out, claiming that the four-time Ballon d'Or winner will become unhappy with his inability to match the former Manchester United winger.
"When Messi sees that Ronaldo has scored so many more goals than him, it will play on his morale," the long-serving French manager said.
"On the wings, he cannot maintain his goal average. In the long term, he won't be happy.
"The best player in the team has a power within the club. He can make the coach better if there is chemistry between them.
"So, if his position doesn't suit him, it weakens the team as whole."
