The long-serving French manager has admitted that catching table-toppers Chelsea, who boast a 12-point lead over the Gunners, may prove to difficult to achieve

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has seemingly thrown in the towel in the race for the English Premier League title after succumbing to a disappointing 2-1 loss away at Swansea.

Despite taking a 1-0 lead through a 63rd minute goal from in-form Chilean attacker Alexis Sanchez, but for the second game in a row, failed to hold onto their lead as Swansea manifested a late comeback to win the Liberty Stadium encounter 2-1.

Slammed by many football pundits after Sunday's defeat, and trolled all over the Internet, the failure to secure three points has left the Gunners 12 points behind leaders Chelsea, forcing Le Prof to admit catching Jose Mourinho's men may prove difficult.

“Chelsea are on an average of 100 points this season," Wenger said. "If you look at the number of points they have, if they keep that up nobody will catch them, that’s for sure.

"There doesn’t look to be anybody capable of challenging them at the moment."

"We had a very disappointing week, considering the performances we produced and the end results we got are very disappointing.

"We were 3-0 up against Anderlecht and 1-0 up here and in the end we lose two points against Anderlecht and three points against Swansea. I think it’s very, very disappointing because you have to be capable, once you are 1-0 up and a big team, to win the game."

Although the long-serving manager gave credit to Garry Monk and his team for coming from behind to secure victory, Wenger claims his side's shortcoming was due to their inability to perform for the full 90 minutes.

"It’s unfortunate to lose a game like that. We produced quite a decent performance for 75 minutes but you have to last 90 minutes. Did Tuesday night play a part in our mind? I don’t think so. I hope not."
