With the arrival of Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao, Juan Mata may find tying down a spot in Van Gaal's starting XI difficult

Serie A holders Juventus are eyeing a January move for Manchester United playmaker Juan Mata.

Despite only moving to Old Trafford last January in a £35m move from London giants Chelsea, the Spaniard is already tipped for a Theatre of Dreams exit.

The arrival of record-breaking English signing Angel Di Maria, who joined the Red Devils from Real Madrid for £59.7m, has given Dutch manager Louis Van Gaal a bit of a selection headache.

Accompanied by Radamel Falcao's Manchester United loan, Van Gaal will be facing a difficult choice of sentencing one of his attacking talent's to life on the bench in order to incorporate the club's summer acquisitions, with Mata favorite to be axed.

"The Old Lady", who are also pondering January loan moves for Antonio Valencia and Manchester City defender Matija Nastasic, will wait to see if they make the Champions League knock out stage, bringing in more revenue for Massimiliano Allegri's side, before making a move for La Furia Roja maestro.

As to whether the 26-year-old former Valencia man will become surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, time will tell, but the 20-time English Premier League champions have plans of their own on signing midfield additions when the next transfer window opens, with Roma enforcer Kevin Strootman high up Van Gaal's wish list.

The former PSV Eindhoven ace, who is expected to make his return to the pitch early next month after a long sideline from action due to a serious knee injury, is readying himself for a move to Manchester, as reported by the Mirror,  as Van Gaal lays out a plan for a £25m swoop for The Oranje's 24-year-old midfielder.
