Catalan giants Barcelona have been rumored with a move for Real Madrid ace Angel Di Maria after the player was dropped from Los Blancos' Spanish Super Cup squad

In a surprise move, Catalan giants Barcelona have made a bid for their bitter La Liga rivals' star player Angel Di Maria, who, according to their Italian boss Carlo Ancelotti, has asked to leave Real Madrid.

As reported by SPORT (per 101 Great Goals), the Blaugrana made an offer worth €60m for the Argentine ace in an attempt to further worsen the situation between player and club.

Los Blancos president Florentino Perez immediately turned down the offer that came in on Friday morning. However, even though the Madrid side will not sell the former Benfica man to Barcelona, Di Maria's Bernabeu exit appears all but guaranteed after he was dropped from the 10-time Champions League winners' Spanish Super Cup squad.

Real Madrid traveled to the Vicente Calderon to face Atletico Madrid in the second leg, which Les Merengues lost 1-0, 2-1 on aggregate. After the game, Ancelotti explained his reasons behind dropping the 26-year-old.

"It was a technical decision that we did not need Di Maria," the former AC Milan boss stated.

"In the second half we lost control of the game. We needed more possession like in the first half of the game. Afterwards, we gave more opportunities to Atletico."

According to Radio Marca, Angel Di Maria has contacted fellow La Albiceleste international Marcos Rojo, who moved to Old Trafford on a £16m fee, in an attempt to join him at the 20-time English Premier League champions.

Di Maria now looks closer and closer to leaving the club he joined back in 2010, with the Red Devils tipped as favorites to land the Real Madrid ace.
