Reports claim that Arsenal may be looking at the German international to bolster their defense ahead of the upcoming season.

As the summer transfer window now heads into its final month for Europe's biggest leagues, the press rumor mill, not surprisingly, has gone into overdrive with speculation as to where some of the game's most notable players will be featuring during the upcoming season.

After winning the World Cup with Germany this summer, Dortmund defender Mats Hummels is one who has seen his name quite often in the press, linking him with a move to, at one point, Barcelona, and more recently, Manchester United, who reportedly had offered €37.5 million (or £30 million) for the 25-year-old

And now, some sections of the English media are claiming that yet another Premier League side may be interested in bringing him on board.

According to British publication The Independent (as per the Mirror), Arsenal may be looking to compete with the Red Devils as they hope to bolster their back-line ahead of next season.

Arsenal coach Arsene wenger was non-committal when asked about new signings, as per the same report, stating that "There could be still one signing, maximum of two. If a good opportunity comes up, we still might [sign someone], but at the moment, we are not close to signing anybody."
