The FA Cup holders have now turned their attention to Portuguese midfielder William Carvalho, making an inquiry into the availability of the 22-year-old, a player also on Manchester United's wishlist.
The Sporting Lisbon youngster has impressed in the Primeira Liga, and has caught the eyes of Arsenal's long-serving French manager as he attempts to bring Carvalho to London for £35m.
However, Carvalho's club wish to be paid a fee in the region of £45m, the defensive midfielder's release clause.
