Jose Mourinho has not been the luckiest of guys when it comes to penalty shoot-outs but the Portuguese coach says it is fate that is always against him

Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho claims he never wins matches on penalties as the Portuguese manager bemoans the bad luck he has been having throughout his coaching career, saying fate has not been on his side during shoot-outs.

The former Real Madrid manager's spot kick despairs have become famous over the years as many of his sides have crashed out of major competitions on penalties, with Real Madrid's 2012 UEFA Champions League loss to Bayern Munich being one of the most recent.

“Don’t speak about penalties with me because I always lose on penalties,” said Mourinho. “The only time I won was in the Super Cup with Inter when we beat Roma [in 2008]. Imagine how lucky I was – Totti missed for Roma!"

"But I lost so many times and, after trying everything, my final conclusion is that it’s what He wants," Mourinho said whilst pointing to the heavens.

“At Real Madrid I didn’t win the Champions League [in 2012] because Ronaldo, Kaká and Sergio Ramos missed [in the semi-final shoot-out defeat by Bayern Munich.] These were the best penalty takers. And with Chelsea in the semi-final against Liverpool [in 2007] it was exactly the same."

“One player who was not on our list of takers was Arjen Robben. He said to me: ‘Put me No1, 100% it’s a goal.’ I did. And he missed. There’s nothing you can do. I keep saying I’m going to win a competition on penalties. It’s going to be a big one.”

The "Special One" made these comments in a discussion where he recalls the moment he nearly became the Three Lions manager.

According to Jose, the Chelsea boss was close to signing on as England coach in 2007 after the dismissal of Steve McClaren but decided not to after his wife advised him against it.

"My wife told me not to take it and she was right,” the Blues boss claimed.

Mourinho, however, declared he will not be taking up the helms of the England national team anytime soon, saying: "I don’t think it will be the job for me in seven years’ time. Maybe in 15 years from now but not seven.”
