Ecuador vs Peru Match Preview
Peru's 'fantastic four' will intend to inflict a rare home defeat upon Ecuador in the altitude of Quito on Tuesday.

Ecuador aim to rebound from loss to Paraguay
Both Ecuador and Peru will be after the three points when they clash in Round 4 of the South American 2014 World Cup qualifiers at the Olimpico Atahualpa stadium in Quito on Tuesday. Both teams have started their campaigns with mixed results and will be looking for a boosting win that would steer them closer towards group leaders Uruguay.
Having narrowly missed out on the 2010 World Cup, Ecuador are desperate to return to the world stage and in order to achieve this they know that they have to continue to win their home games. Having beaten Venezuela comfortably in Quito in their opening World Cup qualifier, Ecuador are well aware that they are capable of inflicting defeat upon the Peruvians as well.
Reinaldo Rueda, the coach of Ecuador, has stressed the importance for his side to "go for the victory" at all costs, because anything less than the three points is unacceptable when playing at home.
Meanwhile, Sergio Markarian, the Uruguayan coach of Paraguay, claimed that his side are up against "the best Ecuador of all time. We have analysed several matches of theirs, and we have also seen their players at their clubs."
While Ecuador will confront the match with little recuperation time after a very physical match with Paraguay in Asuncion on Friday, Peru were provided with sufficient time to train in the 2,300 metre altitude of Arequipa, in preparation for the match in Quito, which stands at 2,850 metres above sea level. Peru had a bye in Round 3 of the qualifiers.
Paolo Guerrero, scorer of both of Peru's goals against Venezuela, affirmed that his team will have to use "all of our weapons, but the most important part is for Peru to win. The most important part is for us to continue united, because the support of the people is very important and this road to the World Cup is very long."
Peru will be unable to count with the services of centre-back Alberto Rodriguez and midfielder Rinaldo Cruzado, due to injuries.
Rivals Ecuador will be without midfielder Cristian Noboa, who is suspended, but they will be able to count with the presence of midfielder Segundo Castillo and striker Cristian Benitez.
The Peruvians will look to the fire-power provided by their intimidating attack labelled 'the fantastic four' which consists of Guerrero, Jefferson Farfan, Juan Vargas and captain Claudio Pizarro.

Ecuador defeated Peru 2-0 in Quito with second-half goals from Edison Mendez and Christian Benitez. With the win Ecuador moved within one point of South American World Cup qualifying group leaders Uruguay.
The match lacked excitement at the beginning, as both teams were locked in the midfield and hardly created any decent goal-scoring opportunities. Ecuador's best chance to find the back of the net arrived five minutes before the half-time break, but midfielder Segundo Castillo couldn't beat Peru goalkeeper Raul Fernandez.
Peru came more into the game towards the end of the half, and almost went ahead with good efforts from Juan Vargas and Jefferson Farfan, two of their most dangerous players. Other than that they were restricted to long-range shots on goal.
In the second period Ecuador launched their team completely towards the attack, as they searched for an opening goal. They looked for a goal at all costs, however, they also left big gaps in their midfield. Peru tried to make the most of the space they were provided with and broke on fast counterattacks at every opportunity.
Peru lost two of their deadliest strikers, with Claudio Pizarro being replaced by William Chiroque and Farfan exiting the field due to an injury. This seemed to inspire the Ecuadorians as they looked much more confident in all sectors, and commenced to inflict heavy pressure upon the Peru goal.
After much pressure, Ecuador finally went ahead in the 69th minute when Benitez dashed into the area and left the ball to Edison Mendez, who beat Fernandez with a shot that crept in off the post.
Despite Ecuador's domination, Peru were presented with a great opportunity to draw level in the 76th minute, but an effort from Jose Eduardo Guerrero that could have ended in a goal was cleared out for a corner-kick by defender Eduardo Morante.
To Peru's dismay, two minutes from full-time Benitez met a rebound in the area with a brilliant finish, to settle the match in favour of the hosts.
With six points from three games, Ecuador find themselves only one point away from Uruguay, the South American World Cup qualifying group leaders.
